I have been looking for a device that displays the auto transmission gear and TC condition. (What gear your in and when the TC is locked/unlocked). I know some RV's have them for the Allison but I have not seen anything for other electronic trannys. I assume that a simple one could be made (say an LED for each gear and one for lockup) but I can't find any info on how to tap the transmission to get solenoid data. (I have the full set of paper manuals -no info) Anyone have any interest or know of who might have such a thing? What I want is an LED to come on when the solenoid gets signal to engage a gear and TC lockup.

i think dakota digital has something like that [maybe not] for the streetrod guys that reads the PRND321. maybe it could be made to work

1-2,2-3 shifts are result of governor pressure changes commanded by PCM to governor pressure solenoid(short explanation) , however, TCC and OD are controlled by solenoid commands (PCM provides ground signal) to those solenoids. LED's could be used to see ground and indicate command given. Wires accessible @ PCM. HTH

ah... then I'm off to see if I can find the wires and figure out how to get at least a TC status. If it's a ground signal, should be pretty easy to tap in a light.

A quick look in the service manual shows PCM connector C2 pin 21 (BR) is for 3-4 shift and pin 11 (OR/BK) is for TC lockup. Using DC service manual Volume 2 2003 DR truck paper verision - page 8w-31-16 and page 8w-80-85.

Would like to confirm that these would be the correct wires to try to capture data from.
