My transmission downshifts from 3rd to 2nd when I take my foot off the peddle. Does this hurt anything ? When I accelerate ,sometimes it has trouble going into 2nd. or 3rd gear. But it always has .

depends on what speeds your moving at. also might be time for a trans filter change. also fill out your truck sig. so we know what you truck is.

I just got it back . They did a filter and flush system. I smelled fluid testerday and it didn't look or smell like new fluid. Would tow haul mode act like this ?

2004 Dodge

on a flush i don't think they change the filter they just hook up tubes and flush the fluid. just check that out and see if they even changed anything. fluid shouldn't smell burnt and should be checked when warm. on an 04 you shouldn't have that many miles on it unless you haul a lot. if you do you should change the fliud & filter every 20-25k. if you have OD off, when towing only, it will shift differently. little bit firmer/stronger like a shift kit. you will also run the gears longer thus the firm shifts. when your coasting or slowing at high speeds with OD off the trans will downshift a little slower and kinda clunk into 3rd. 3rd gear will have the TC lockup on being a 1:1 ratio and applying the torque. don't worry about the clunk from downshifting it's normal.

when your trans acts up is the truck warmed up or is the trans cold?

Nick, My truck has 27k On it and they said they would flush and change filter. Your are wright they will ussually change filter and fluid or just flush . It doesn't matter if warmed up or not. The truck slipped going into 2nd the other day when I had a pallet of salt on it. I took off pretty fast to see if anything would happen.

I plowed 8 hours the other day with no problems . The dealer said bring it in this week and they will look at it.

when you trans slips, does the engine rpm's go up for a second then grab the gear? it's kinda tuff to diagnose not having the truck. i read on hear that someone roasted the TC, not sure if that could be the problem with you. also maybe you need to have a band adjustment? i went to tech school and know somethings about the trans but i could ask me teacher the next time i see him at a car show. won't be for a while. he used to work a transmission shop and made his own shift kits and little tricks. otherwise just get that fixed before the warrenty expires. let me know what you find out it's bugging me now. i'll let you know if anything else comes up.
