2014 Ram 6.7 using a lil oil??

I recently became the proud owner of a 2009 RAM 2500 4X4 with the 6.7L engine and 68RLE 6 speed transmission. Someone posted about Amazon being the best place to purchase the transmission filter kit. I went there, but it looks like Chinese knockoffs for $47. Any suggestions on where to buy at a decent price?
One thing I have discovered, a rude awakening so to speak, Diesels are expensive to maintain! I didn't get any documentation and the previous owner was ignorant, so I don't think he maintained anything for over 40k miles. I have 83,350 on it, so am changing out everything. The "Perform service now" light only said to change the engine oil, which I have done. I want to use quality parts and fluids. TIA for any advice.

Have you at least changed the fuel filter in that time frame? Air filter?

Rear diff fluid would also be a high priority if it were me. If you don't have an owners manual with the recommended service intervals I strongly suggest buying one. If you think they are expensive to maintain you won't like the repair bill!

OEM filters are by far your best choice, particularly the fuel, air, and trans.

Mopar fuel filter # 68061634AA
Fleetguard (OEM) air filter # AF27684
Fleetguard (OEM) oil filter # LF16035

Mopar transmission filters # MOP-05179267AD and MOP-05013470AE (filter # is for a 4wheel drive, 2 wheel drive requires a different filter)

CCV filter # CV520010

You can shop around with those part numbers for the best prices.

Welcome!

Great advice. I watched a video on changing the diff. Fluid. Doesn’t look difficult. It’s like having to start over when you don’t have paperwork. I downloaded the manual, if I need to change the fuel filter will the info center sat so? How about the need for regen and other things? Really appreciate the input. Welcome!

I try and support Geno's Garage which is this forum site sponsor! Geno's offers both Mopar and Fleetguard filters for our trucks at a reasonable price. Since you have a 2009 truck which is very similar to my truck a 2008. You will need the same components for service, these are the components that I purchase from Geno's garage and Geno's part numbers plus price.
1. Air Filter-AF-6851755AA Mopar -$26.95
2. Fuel Filter -FS43258 Fleetguard-$39.95 ( this is the latest designed filter, the FS2 design without the shell. If you need the shell and filter, you can purchase both, part number FS43257 for $52.95. (One time purchase the housing/shell is reusable.)
3. Oil Filter-LF16035 Fleetguard -$14.95
4. You will need to do this every 67,500 miles, clean and service the CCV and EGR system. The EGR cleaning kit with filter part number is EGRKIT-1 $119.50. This is everything you need plus instructions on how to service and clean the EGR.
5 .Transmissions if you have a 2-wheel drive vehicle the sump filter part number is MOP-5015267-$36.95
If you have a 4-wheel drive the sump filter part number is MOP-5013470-$34.95
Both transmissions will require a spin on filter, this is inside the housing which is access once the pan is dropped Part number is MOP05179267AD-$22.95. You will need a RTV silicone or sealant for the pan gasket. Which Geno's sell part number MOP-0510884AD -$6.95

Every 5 years or 100,000 miles the coolant should be changed in the engine.

I would also check out The Perfect Collection on the LH side this will discuss everything you need to know about 6.7L engine and your truck.

Hope this helps?

JimW, Got it, Thanks, I need all the help I can get! By the way what is "the perfect collection", I went to Geno's and didn't see anything like that?

I bought a kit on Amazon and used Amsoil full synthetic ATF+4 . Amsoil has worked awesome for me. I bought the dealer package and the money I save was well worth the $50 for the dealer license .

Welcome to the fold! Lots of good information here in the TDR and Geno's is my go to.. only if they don't have it do I even look elsewhere.

I would be careful on filters bought on AMAZON for your truck. You want to make sure they are actual filters are made either by a Mopar supplier or are made in the US. A lot of filters, but not all are Chinese knock offs and the quality may not be there.

That is why I use Geno's Garage for my needs, I know the filters will be the correct ones and meet the requirements for filtration and will work in the dodge/Ram trucks!

Since you're new to the truck let me share my perspective on this.

These trucks can be really expensive when something "breaks" and you have to "repair" it. These trucks can be really expensive when you want to "replace" an otherwise perfectly good part just for the "upgrade" it provides. However, compared to these expenses, these things are really cheap to "maintain." And the better you maintain them, the less likely you'll have to repair stuff. So with that in mind, I prioritize upgrades that provide maintenance improvements, like secondary fuel filtration, or engine oil bypass filters.

But, the most important thing? Enjoy your truck.

I buy my transmission filters from Geno's Garage that's because I know they have the correct filters for MY truck, and not some third world stuff that may not fit, I don't need the mystery stuff. ;)

I know I'm late to the discussion. Anytime I purchase a vehicle with unknown maintenance, I perform all fluid and filter changes and any other maintenance specified in the owner's manual (OM).

I concur with using Geno's. There may be cheaper PRICES around, but not sure there is any better VALUE. This whole TDR and Geno's Garage is a pretty nice package... Military Veteran's get a 10percent discount as well. I usually spend $600 to $1,200 with Geno's everytime I purchase a new Ram Cummins. Air, oil, fuel filters and accessories (radiator and intercooler guards, quick release grill kit, etc...).

I'm on the edge of not being able to do much more self maintenance, but happily, I have a dealer that I've been doing business with for over 20 years, 4 new Rams and a new Jeep. I easily performed the 30K trans fluid change, but likely will have the 60K mile service performed at the dealer, and likely eventually have them perform all maintenance

Anyhoo, good luck with doing the recurring maintenance on your truck.

Cheers, Ron
