I'm being told its going to cost me $179+ tax to put a new transmission filter in,adjust the bands, flush and replace all fluid. The price didn't seem to bad until he told me that the transmission will only take about 8qts. If it was twelve 12-14 qts($28/gal) this price wouldn't bother me. I can't beleive it only takes 8qts is this right ? Thanks Guys.

If less the 60k on it do a FLUSH instead. You WON't find bans out of adust. The Flush is the way to go and has been for several years. I only service filter every other flush at most and hacve flushed and not serviced filter until 90k in past.

I read recently that flushing had some negative points. Can anyone elaborate? I just boutght a new filter, but haven't decided yet weather or not to flush or what to replace it with.

I'm curious also. Just got a coupon from my D. C. dealer complete flush with atf+4 for 139. 95. The way we did it at the D. C. dealer I worked at was add flush treatment lift auto/truck slight off ground and start auto and put in reverse(higher pressures in trans if trans is in reverse)let run and then turn machine on. It has a sight glass to monitor fluid. Even what looks like a nice colored fluid on stick IS DARK compared to NEW going in. Out goes OLD in comes NEW and once bladder is empty let idle and check fluid in neutral and top off. Lots of folks COMMENTED that they shifted better and smoother then before. On my Chevy Caprice it was noticeable when it went into lockup. NO shudder and I didn't think it had one but it did but slight. The GOOD trans techs will tell you its the only way to fly. The ban adjust is BULL. The same GOOD trans guys will tell you its only done on a major rebuild and or REAL high mileage but is RARLY EVER out. We even discussed WHY its even advertised in a trans serviced. If out bad enough to adjust TRANS is BROKE to start with. When some had enough miles to replace filter WE did a DEAL on doing both. Like from $139. 95 to $169. 95 to do filter and flush. On my 93 W250 I didn't change filter for 90k and only did cause pan gasket was ozzing. The filter still looked good and almost no depris to speak of in pan. It had been flushed three times in 90k.
