hey all, replaced the transmission fluid and filter a couple of days ago... started out putting 4 quarts of fluid back in the transmission. . that was enough... i'm up to 6 now, does that sound about right? seems like that would be a bit much, but its starting to show in the "crosshatched" area.

thanks for the help, just trying to get the right about back in there, since its not in the owners manual or service manual.

Probably about right. The longer you have the pan off the transmission, the more you will lose. Also be sure you are checking it idling in neutral. Don't overfill as the level will rise a little when the fluid is hot. bg

James,

if you dont mind me hy-jacking your thread. what did the fluid smell like??? I was checking mine the other day & it does not smell like any transmission fluid Ive ever smelled (GM Mostly). it had a "plastic" smell to it. It did not smell burned like my TH400 did when I toasted it, it just smelled like a stinky plastic. is that how its supposed to smell?

thanks

Bob

hey Bob, dont mind the thread-jack at all... just trying to learn something like the rest of us. Honestly, it smelled like any and all other transmission fluid i have ever smelled. I didn't smell of it much, just as it was draining out. I didn't notice any different or peculiar about it. hope that helps?

I changed mine a while back and it took 6. 5 quarts and when all warmed up it measured correctly on the dipstick. I changed the filter also at the same time. Hope that helps. I filled it up with Amsoil ATF.
