transmission Flush

After all the debates ,I'm getting ready to change the oil in my NV4500 . I must admit I was a bit leary of using fluids that were'nt specifically recommended for it. So I chompped down on a bullet and bought some liquid gold[Castrol Syntorc] The question I have is what can I run through transmission to flush out the old stuff before I put this waaaaaaaaay overpriced fluid in.

When I changed my fluid, I removed the PTO cover and was able to clean out the fine "dirt" laying on the bottom of the transmission with rags. I don't know how you can safely flush this "crud" out. Maybe someone else can tell you. The only problem with removing the PTO cover is resealing it. I installed a filter and it came with gaskets. I would imagine you could use the same stuff that is used to seal the diff. covers.

I used black RTV. Lay about an 1/8" bead on the surface and encircle the bolt holes, let it stiffen about ten minutes and bolt it on. Instructions say to let it set for I think 24 hours but I have cut that way short without problems.

You can cheat by just removing one bolt but that won't let you clean it with rags. By the way, I pulled the left plate to put the filter kit on and found a magnet. Then I read the filter instructions which said to use the right side. So, I did but found no magnet on that side. I parked mine facing downhill and leaning hard to one side to get the transmission level and to get as much out as possible before taking the rags to it.
