about a month and a half ago my transmission gave out on my "06" 5. 9 quad cab. just completely died when i went to get on the freeway. no forward no reverse, no 4wd. after having it towed to the dealer i was told the TC was shot and misc. other parts and pieces. it ran pretty well for about a month and then it started the shift hunt btwn 2nd and 3rd and slipping into neutral for longer periods than is normal. i took it back in and had the mechanic ride with me and he agreed that there were some shifting issues and that he could fix that no problem. left it there again to have him load a new program from dodge that should alleviate the problem. well it did seem a bit better so i drove it for a couple of more weeks and it just got worse and worse. my wife barely made it to the dealer to get it checked again and i am informed the TC is gone again and it needs a new sealring kit and about $800. 00 worth of misc parts and plates. i'm sure there are other things the service advisor informed me of, but when he said he couldn't get the parts for two weeks i was so mad i couldn't think. dodge won't replace it either.
i've had the truck since the end of "06" and in that time have towed my toyhauler on three long trips. once to the Oregon coast, once to San Diego (campland by the bay) and once to Parker Arizona. only the trip to Parker was i loaded with my ATV's. it's a 26ft Attitude which is a pretty lite rig and a 3500 should have no issues pulling that as that is what i bought it for. how does a transmission go out twice in a month and a half with less than 30K on it. i am not a hot rodder. i have a AFE Stage II intake and an AFE intake horn i bought from Mr. Bob at the May Madness, a Pac Brake exhaust brake, and Air Ride air bags.
i am regretting that i bought an automatic. it looks like even though i am covered under warranty and they are going to fix it AGAIN, that this transmission is just not going to hold up for the long haul. since they won't replace the transmission is there some way for me to ensure they are going to get this next repair right and what can i reasonably expect from this trans as far as useful life? as they charged me $800. 00 for my 15K service they cannot say i didn't follow maintenance schedules. can someone give me a detailed list of what i should ask the service advisor about what should be performed and how can i determine the parts were actually changed with new ones? will this trans ever really be right or is that possible after going out twice? could this have been caused by them not performing the correct maintenance procedures and maybe not flushing the fluids properly?
