Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission Gremlins (electrical)

Hey guys, my dad needs your help



His truck: 2001. 5 2500 auto 3. 55 Stock





The problem: His trucks transmission is not locking up in overdrive. Or 3rd



Sometimes it will, you shut it off for awhile... restart and no lock-up... When



it does lock-up its solid NO slippage so its not the TC.





What we have tried: We have replaced the TPS, Speed Sensor, Batteries.



I suspect their is noise coming from the battery cables or alternator that is



nixing the operation of the TPS. Mabey a Gov. Pressure Sensor?



Has anyone had this Gremlin and chased down the problem?

I would suggest that you take the big ground cable that runs under the air box loose , clean it , and put it back together with some dilectric grease . Spray all visible grounds with deep creep or comp. and see if this helps. It fixed mine and it was doing the same thing. Just a suggestion

My 99 3500 had the same problem.

Having the extended warranty off to the dealer i went ,tech plugged in ,test drove/confirmed the problem.

Do as LT suggested because thats exactly what the dealer claimed was done.



In my case this was the second time i had the same problem in less than 7000 miles since the last repair .

After a discussion with the service rep he suggested we have the TC replaced.

I will chime in here my friend in homer alaska had the same thing with his transmission erratic operation many trips to the dealer new vavlebody in the trans to no avail. followed all tdr advice from the discussin boards and finally somebody suggested the alternator, 400. 00 in kenai AK. it worked for great he loved his truck again for about 4 months then he called and said that it was back again erratic operation asked if tdr had found something new?? always watching the boards and by the way I am in billings montana right now if any tdr members are located here and want to chat trucks or alaska or montana give me a call on my cell phone.

I am bored and here for 2 days. .
