I dropped the pan to the transmission and after draining almost all the fluid I found a bolt and what appears to be two long (1 1/2"-2") narrow peices of metal. There was also what appears to be shards of metal.

What does this sound like to you? A new/rebuilt transmission or can this be fixed.

To give you a little backgound the truck was not shifting properly. You would have to take your foot off the gas to get the truck to shift from first to second and from second to third after that it shifted fine.

If it's not shifting right you probably need to have it taken apart to find the damage and get it fixed (or just buy a rebuilt one). You could try changing the filter & fluid to see if it helps but the longer you drive it with pieces floating around in it, the more expensive the rebuild will be.

MY BABY IS SICK. I think we will do what we can to fix it if that does not work i'll just sell her. I don't have 3k to put into a transmission.

take a couple of pictures of what you found, problem could be almost anything. bolt could be from filter or v-body attaching bolt. plastic could be a bushing, off the neutral safety switch lever, lots of stuff. some metal is normal. could even have a frayed throttle valve cable binding up causing late shifts. more info please.
