I was driving home tonight when I pulled in my neighborhood and my truck seemed to down shift and would not respond to me depressing the accelerator. I attempted to shift it into tow/haul and it didn't seem to phase it. It was like I was traveling in first gear! the only thing that would respond to the accelerator was the tach. ; I pulled over and turned it off and restarted and it seemed to work normal, but I was close to home so I drove it to the house and parked it. No engine light, no codes. What do I need to look for?

Governor pressure transducer and solenoid if you have not replaced them lately. Same if you have as they can fail quickly. Turning thr truck off then starting and things are working again is indicative of an lectrical componenet failure\glitch. Drive it and make sure you have all the gears now.

Won`t want to rule out speed sensor. Mine would downshift with no warning and was erratic ended up being speed sensor. Local shop found it ,it wasnt showing any codes .

This a. m. when I drove to work it stayed in 1st until 2000 RPM's and finally shifted, that was unusual. All the searching came out to solenoid and transducer cerberusiam, but thats the first time I've heard about a speed sensor. I hate taking it to a shop because I want to know exactly what's being done but coming up on the weekend the options may be limited. I really appreciate the feed back!

I took it in yesterday morning after driving to work and felt as though it stayed in 1st gear forever. I didn't smell any burnt smell to the transmission fluid, but thought I would be safe. Local mechanic, that has a reputable shop stated called back and stated that he never found any codes so they were going to drop the pan. Long and the short at this time was minimal clutch material in pan, said from normall use, foamy/burnt fluid; they were going to change the filter and fluid and found that one of the bands was "way out". So I I asked them about the solenoid and transducer and he thought it it wasn't. My thoughts were, your there replace them, is that the wrong thing to think or can you tell if they are bad?

If your in there replace the solenoid and transducer. The speed sensor is usually not a problem but for a $20 part its worth changing to rule it out.
