Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) transmission hunting I think

Last week I ran into what I think is the dreaded hunting transmission problem. I have found that I have a quick 3-4 shift followed by a pulse in speed. I can make this happen only around 40 to 55. Which I hate BC most of the driving I m having to do know is 40 to 55. At any other speed the truck runs great, well good enough for having 97k on the auto. Im wanting to install a new HD unit but I need to make this one last a little longer. Could this be caused by the Govenor press sensor or the solenoid going bad?



Does any one know where I can get a bullet proof auto in the Dallas/ FT worth area?

Try checking and cleaning the battery connections, including grounds to the chassis/firewall. It has happened to me twice now and both times cleaning the battery connections fixed the problem. The first time I took it to a trasmission shop and that is all they could find as a problem. Mine was doing the same thing at 40 to 60 mph... shifting up and down.

Had same problem. Changed some solenoids for $400 and still did it. PUt on the DTT Noise Filter for $37 and that fixed it!



Solenoids had the truck at the dealer for 3 days for diagnoistics etc.



Noise Filter took me 5 minutes in my drive and all is good.

The shop that did the diagnosis I mentioned prescribed changing the solenoid & torque converter for $ 1200, ouch !

I RECENTLY PUT A DTT TRANS IN MY 02, 2500, 400RWHP IT IS THE BEST DAMN THING I DID TO MY TRUCK. IT WAS A LITTLE PRICEY BUT IT IS TEN TIMES THE TRANS THAT THE STOCK WAS BRAND NEW!!. . I ALSO HAVE ABOUT 97K ON MINE AND IT IS RUNNING LIKE A TOP!

wonder if James tried that 1? ive had my DTT since january, nothing but hell since. rebuilt once in kansas and once in dallas it hunts in every gear.

clean the grey plastic connection on grey ground cable between battery and airbox.

Dunrite Tin Foil Fix

try cleaning grounds. all of them . especially the one between pcm and firewall. fought this problem for two years and have not had aproblem for 18 mounths and 25000 miles good luck.

For months I experienced T/C locking and unlocking when transmission controller was turned off. I purchased a DTT noise filter but before installing it,I tried Dunrite's Tin Foil Fix(home page of TDR). Surprise,surprise it worked great! Not a symptom in 300 miles now. Total time spent:20 minutes. Cost:less than a buck!
