Just lost reverse gear today, no warning or noises... doesn't make the normal {engine load sound} of being in gear. 1995 Auto, with B-D converter/valve body inside..... i'm worried it's about to lose the rest of the gears soon... . can anybody help me out?it would be greatly appreciated... . transmission has 207,000 miles on it maybe the band broke, not sure... i need to get to work monday:(

Well, far be it for me to be the bearer of bad news but with that many miles on it, you can probably put a fork in it, I think the transmission's done. On the bright side, it'll give you an excuse to upgrade the transmission. Look around the site, there's an opinion or two on what transmission upgrade a guy should go with ;)

Sorry to hear this Greg. You didn't use reverse on the burn out pad 2 weeks ago did you? The smoke was awsome. Oo.

On the bad side - how does the fluid look? did you check the linkage to see if there was any thing going on that may prevent it from going into reverse? Does it feel like it is shifting at the lever on the steering column?

Stan: thanks, yeah the smoke was great... . and the broken mirror too. got that fixed at least..... shift lever seems ok, linkage is fine... i'm pretty sure it was the reverse band... what I really need is a second vehicle to commute to work with while i get this one to a transmission shop!:(

Kondolay doesn't like to modify trannies with such high mileage. He would have said to look for another low mileage trans to build and use yours or spare parts.

The Powershop in Enumclaw has a stock-rebuilt trans for a 95 2wd (47rh) that I heard they've been dying to get rid of for a long time.
