Just got back from Enterprise Engines, transmission is done!!!!! Suncoast torque converter, valve body and SFI flexplate. Also had them put on the BD transmission pan I boght a long time ago. Truck shifts HARD. Seems a bit quicker when locked up is that me or the converter?? Guess I would notice more had I towed with it. Now its time to buy a trailer.

My only question is this when it goes into high gear lock-up it shifts real hard shakes the whole drivetrain  It did it when stock too just more pronounced now. Also what is the reason for the RPM drop when it changes gears? I know its supposed to do that just dont know why.

P. S. Im now an advocate for changing the flexplate too. Ive seen my mom bake pies in those disposable aluminum pie pans that were thicker than the stock flexplate :D

with EZ box on level 2???? 45 horse???? Truck has done it since day one even when bone stock... . just a hard shift a bit harder than 2nd & 3rd.

transmission

Some small copper colored shavings in stock pan. I asked to keep stock pan and they wiped it out so it wouldnt leak all over my truck, but I could still drag out some shavings with my finger. I realise some shavings are normal but Im not sure now. Any of you modified Auto guys know whats going on here? You would think Enterprise would have said something if there was a problem. As they would have got more cash out of me :( Dont know Do you???

hello anyone willing to chime in?? any other auto guys experience this when going into high gear lock-up?? well guess i cant sleep tonight again. any help would be gratly appreciated not sure if truck is supposed to do this. never done these mods b4 in my life. thats why im asking you guys. hopefully somebody responds.

Mine did it since new and it is more pronounced after I installed a shiftkit. It varies with throttle pressure on mine so I kind of got used to it. I like it. Sometimes it seems pretty harsh but I did mine over 30,000 miles agon so if something was terribly wrong, it would have probably let go by now.

goodluck

I'm running Suncoast too, and when it goes into 4th while boost is over 17psi or so, it shifts hard. Hard enough that you can see the tach bounce! When it is in tow/haul mode, it will go into 4th and then lock-up almost instantly at any boost psi. In regular drive, while keeping boost about 10psi, it will go into 4th, but lock-up will be delayed. It feels more like when it locks up in 3rd.

From what i was told 4th is controlled by the computer. Mine will not go into fourth at full throttle apparently the pressure is too high now with an aftermarket VB so it holds and when i blip the throttle it goes in but it is a hard shift. I put a VB assist in and that helped but didn't make the problem go completely away.

Sounds like the pressure is a little too high to me. Did you drive any similarly equipped trucks before spending the money? The stronger lock-up convertor and higher pressures to clamp it are most likely what you are feeling.

My fear would be that now that you have TC holding capacity, you are sending shock waves through the rest of the trans and driveline. If you now add power and a trailer I can see why lots of guys go for the full trans package. You might not slip the convetor anymore but you might break an input shaft

At any rate, if you have concerns, take it back to the installer and ask. Suncoast is reputable and should be able to give you some answers. There must be some middle ground between the stock mush and a drivetrain buster. Good Luck.

If EE installs BOMBed autos wouldn't they be able to do some of the dialing in? I would think SunCoast or EE could soften it up a little for you Smokin.

Thanks guys, the truck is at Enterprise Engines right now. Now I'm just playing the waiting game to get it back. I did NOT like how hard it went into lock-up. It felt like every bushing in the truck was being compressed to the maximum. Well see when I get it back, hopefully soon. Enterprise was nice about it when I called, they said bring it in monday and well take a look. So I'll know more later and will post. I'll see if I'm still OK with the experience when I go to pick it back up. Its har not to like Enterprise they had like 12 Dodges in the parking lot they were working on. I'm sur they are up to par and am looking forward to the resolve of this one. Thanks again for replying guys, I'll now find out if there is a happy medium as stated above!!!

Just talked to Doug @ Enterprise, he said hes waiting on a call from Joe @ Suncoast. Apparently Joe is bad about calling him back  Doug says the hard lock-up is normal but that theyve had other complaints that this is too violent. They are going to try and get Suncoast to tell them how to soften this up a bit. Otherwise he said Ill have change the way I drive it. Let off the throttle a bit then let it shift then back on the throttle. Sounds like thatll be fun... . What happens when I'm spanking a Stroke-n-Joke and I have to let off throttle to keep from snapping a shaft like my son snaps his pretzle sticks :-laf Oh well I'll keep ya posted looks like ol' Red is sleeping at the Mitchell farm again tonight.

This is what happened to my stock input shaft. This was at full throttle when the TC locked up at 75mph. I know what your talking about with the firm shifts. It seems to enhance what was going on with the stock transmission. You do learn to drive a little different and because of that I don't get those hard shifts any more.

how do you avoid the extra hard shifts? do you think I'll be allright with my EZ box and stock input shaft???

It's hard to say if a input shaft will break or not. There are people who I'm sure beat their transmission harder then I do and will never have an input shaft break on them. There are people who do boost launches in 4x4 and haven't broken one. It's the luck of the draw that I broke mine. I know a guy that has the Hot juice/attitude, twin turbos and a bunch of other stuff that is still running his stock input shaft. Will it break? Who knows! One things for sure you don't see stock trucks breaking them. In my opinion I would say your safe with a mild box like the EZ. Give your transmission a week or two and you'll see what I mean about learning to drive it.

Joe, try and drive it like I said earlier. I went with everything billet but the intermediate, so I have more "insurance" than you, but I know what you mean about the hard OD shift. You can drive around it 90% of the time though if you know how.

Am I to understand that a valve body and torque convertor upgrade will produce these harsh shifts and that is just the way it is? Is there a vendor that can take the mush out of the convertor without resorting to NHRA style shifts? My wife drives this truck and I would get a real chewin if I brought it home and the transmission slammed gears. This notion of learning to drive around the harsh shifting wouldn't fly with me, not for the kind of $$ these vendors get.

Is there a VB/TC upgrade for those of us wanting something mild? Something that puts the power down more efficiently without the race trans mentality?

It is a good thing this came up, I would have been seriously PO'ed had I done the same mod and had the same results.

Well I cant say I'm glad to be the "ginny-pig" But Enterprise called this am and said they have a new valve body coming Thursday and that they will try and have it ready by thursday nite. Only thing is , Suncoast is coming out with a "new and improved" valve body here in the next couple weeks, I just cant wait on it that long. I have a trailer to pull and work to do and dont want to xplode my $3400 upgrade!!!! They said this new one should help soften up the lock up but that the brand new one is supossed to be even better. I guess if I still dont like it when I get it back Thurs. Doug and the boys will be seeing her again for the NEW valve body. Im just crossing my fingers that this one does the trick!
