And this is why I wouldn’t be buying anything from them. If whatever he ran your VIN with didn’t tell him what transmission you have, he should’ve called a dealer and had them run it.

Goerend has TC's available for the 68RFE. Do what you want on the transmission, but if I found the TC is the problem at this time, I'd replace it and drive on.

According to their website, the closest installer to New Port Richey Goerend lists is Inline Performance, 680 E Southland Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513. (352) 568-7591

WOW, thanks for checking that out for me, thats AWESOME !!, I did look on that link you sent me and I sure did not see that one in Bushnell. I will call them this afternoon. I looked also on that site and it appears there is 3 different versions of that TC, should the middle of the road one be good ?? I'm sure either one would be better that stock ? Call Goerend, (563) 778-2719, tell them what you have going on, how you use your truck, and if you're planning to take it to Inline Performance. They'll tell you exactly what you need. They're good people.

Scott, talk to the owner who has the identical truck I have. Very nice people, he told me he is booked at least a month out and very short staffed. I will first keep my appt. at another trans shop that is scheduled for the 17th and see what they say, at that point I will make a decision based on those results as to dropping it off at Goerend possibly for the summer while I go back to MI. I will check back when I have results. Thanks everyone for chiming in on this thread.

A friend of mine hear in the park who owned a diesel repair shop in MI. he just retired last year and I asked him for his opinion. He said when something like my issue would come into his shop that need a TC with a 160K miles on it. They would recommend a Jaspen reman trans, that comes with a Billet TC. He said that Jasper has a very good warranty and they are nation wide shop who could do warranty work if needed. With me traveling back and forth from Fl. to MI. twice a year I may want to consider something like that. I thought he raised a good point and I would ask for your guys opinion on that please ?? Look, you do whatever you want, your truck, your money. We’ve been perfectly clear what we recommend. If we thought Jasper was a good recommendation, don’t you think we’d have said that already?

WOW, thanks for the link, sounds like a mess. I was only asking for opinions on my last post, wasn't trying to upset anyone, sorry Scott. I realize you guys are only trying to help. I thought I could ask questions without offending anyone, please except my apologies.

You're not alone. I deal with that in the Overlanding crowd all the time...
First they talk to me on the CP and I explain everything around the topic down to every detail for an hour or two - and the very next morning they are back with "but I read at the internet...".

Drives me nuts.

I was on another transmission thread and the question was asked if he has had his filters changed in the transmission, apparently there is 2. My question is, when I have had the dealership do a transmission service throughout the years does that include changing/ replacing the filters ?? If not, how often are you suppose to change the filters ??

Filters go at every oil change and yes factory workshops change them every time. Service manual calls for this.
That's exactly why trans pan has no drain bolt.

I guess your referring to the oil filter that get changed every oil change ?? I was under the impression they were talking about filters in the transmission. Maybe I got it all wrong, sorry.

If your talking about the 68rfe then yes they should be changed when serviced at 60K, my 22 the owners manual show's to service at 120K unless police, fleet towing frequently, I disagree with the idea of waiting until 120K to service transmission, I have always serviced my transmissions every 60K including filters...

Thanks, yeah, in german we translate it to transmission oil instead of fluid and that catches me sometimes.

O.k., thanks for clarifying gentlemen, while we are on the subject, what is the correct way of checking the transmission fluid/oil ?? LOL.

Proper fluid check on a warm transmission, park on level ground, pull the dipstick. Put the shifter in all gear positions, leave truck running and in neutral. Put the dipstick fully back in and slowly remove it. Level should be anywhere in the hash marks, preferably right in the middle.

And do it several times with the dipstick pushed in both ways, the readings are always different.
This transmission doesn't want to tell you the true fluid level.

A word of warning from my experience, every time you pull the stick out, it pulls fluid up into the tube, so if you don't wait and let the tube drain, you will (or CAN) get a false reading after several "attempts."
