Need help correcting a transmission leak. 97 4x4 with the 47rh trans. Rebuilt by (name with held for now). Has about 1000 miles since rebuild. transmission is leaking a lot at the seam between the main transmission case and the OD unit. All the mount bolts are tight, cooler lines & fitting are tight. Cannot find and visible cracks in the case. With the trans in N, it drips about 3 drops per second, or about a quart every 50 miles.

Any ideas as to what would be causing the leak?? And how hard is it to fix??. Sure, it has a warrrentee, but by the time I send it back to fix it, I can do it sooner / faster myself.

Unless you went & put an older trans in that truck it should be a 47RE , they went from a hyd control to electric .
They should cover the cost of repair weather you do or not , they may want to see a receipt from a shop .
I think that the biggest hassle would be just dealing with the transfer case , once you separate the OD unit , look for nicks in the sealing area , drag a file across , but be sure to keep it in touch with both sides of the flats to keep a flat surface , not sure about that trans , but if someone has a gasket use , what ever you do , do not use silly cone , it ooses out , and can come lose inside trans & really muck things up .

Leaks

I had 2 leaks.

1 leak was the plug inside the driveshaft yoke.

I used high temp silicone to seal it up from the outside.

The other leak turned out to be the seals in the transfer case.

I dropped the transfer case and replaced all the seals.

No more leaks!

You are correct, it is the 47RE transmission.

The X-fer case seal are good - no leaks between the OD and the X-fer case.

The leak is between the transmission housing and the OD unit. Any ideas?
