I have a leak from the seal on the transfer case tailshaft. My local transmission shop has replaced it three times, this last time with a "heavy duty" seal.

The leak starts up again the next day. Has anyone else had this problem and found a cure?

Did they check and see if the bushing in the tail shaft was good,or a groove or rough seal fit on the yoke that slides up on the shaft... . ? Where the seal runs... and i think theres a vent on the transfer case make sure it's not pluged building up preasure...

Good to hear from a fellow machinist! Yes, the bushing has been replaced. The yoke has been inspected. I am going to check for a vent tonight.

Heres one that you might try,Put the trans out of gear,N... Block both back wheels up,Put an indicator on the yoke behind the seal and check for,T. I. R. ,if thats out ,out put shaft in tranni may be bent,or bad bearing or bushings,or ID of spline in yoke, may not be T. I. R.
