Ok guys... after a day of shopping. . I got home and my transmission cooler line blew up on my. Thank god it was in my driveway. I have one of the cooler lines that has a place to install a transmission gauge sending unit. As I was looking at it... where the sending unit screws in, the welding on the top gave out. :(

Now for my questions. Where is the quickest and cheapest way to get a new transmission line that has a place to install a transmission sending unit, also I need a transmission filter and gasket? Being I need to change my ATF anyways... what kind of ATF is is good to use and how much fluid is needed? Currently I have Amsoil +4, though I don't have the time to make another order and wait for it to arrive. With my truck being disabled in the driveway I am limited to Auto Zone and Wal-Mart, both of which are rock throwing distance from my house. Any suggestions???

Thanks a bunch!!!

K_Arts,

Be real careful with the fluid mine took ATF+3 which I found at WallMart and Pep Boys. With out a signature it's hard to tell what year you are etc. If you can't find the trans line quick enough a quick fix is as follows: remove the line (if you can't cut bad part out in place) cut out the leaky part of the line and install a length of fuel rated hose & clamps as a temporary "patch". This should work for a while - just remember it's there. When I installed the DD Pan I had to replace 11 quarts - if you drop pan drain for an hour you might have to return 8 - 9 at the most. Always get more than you "think" you need, WallMart and most auto parts places don't refuse returns of "not needed amounts". And, I agree w/azcummins check your manual for proper trans fluid first - "don't use anything other than the correct type" or you may end up in the trans shop sooner than you plan. Also, my $. 02, if you don't have the shop manual yet while you are in the owners manual go to the back of it and order the "Bible" for your truck - best $100 I've spent so far.

Good luck. ;)

Thanks for the replies guys... Actually I do have a service manual. . but of course everything is metric and for some reason my conversions just don't seem right.

Sorry bout the sig. . I thought I included it.

Kev,

You should have called me. I have about 4 gallons of new AMSOIL ATF and my stock trany line is hanging on the wall. NAPA on main St. should have the filter and gasket.

Sorry I am late reading this. Give a call if you still need anything.

Thanks GTX!!! Actually I am going to call Johnson's here after they open and see if they have the line... or can order it for me. I have about a gallon and a half of Amsoil ATF sitting in my garage... but after reading some posts here on the TDR, I am going to switch to ATF +3 to see how it acts.

I may call you if I need assistance... if you don't mind. Thanks a bunch!!!

ATF +3 is all the transmission really needs, throw in lubeguard at one once per quart and you have a formula that is just about as good and some will say as good as the expensive synthetic trans oils.

Walmart sells castrol ATF +3, some reputable transmission shops run this fluid.

Well guys... I got the line removed, and it wasn't good news. My transmission line blew open in two places. Right above the sender unit and right where the line screws into the transmission right above the VB. Where the line screws into the transmission, the adapter actually broke in half leaving part of it still lodged into the transmission.

I called Bill K to see what he advised me to do. He gave me great advice on how to fix it and recommended me to call one of his local installers (Laser Bob). Bob and his buddy, came and hauled my truck away... . and are fixing the prob for me.

Thanks a million to Bill K, Shanti, Bob Berends and his buddy Kevin!!!!! Thanks for the Great Service!!!!
