Put one of the old style lines on a 2001 and hooked it up worked beautiful for 2 days. Wanted to monitor the temp at the port on the old style line. Looked undet the truck yesterday morning and saw fluid on the drive way. Tightened everything again and tried it again still was getting fluid leaks. Let the engine run in drive with the brake on and could see a small seep coming out of the top crimp on the rubber part of the new line. Kept putting a rag in it and tried to wick all the fluid out but still kept leaking. Went to DC and asked about a new rubber part of the line , no go would not sell it without the whole assembly.

Today went to a hydraulic hose place in town , walked in and showed the hose to the counter man and he said it is off an automatic transmission isn't it , told him yes how do you know that he said I made one yesterday for another guy. Nobody else would use the old fittings but that is what he wanted to do put new hose and pressed fittings on, used a steel braided hose real stiff hard to get back on. It is a lot better set up than the factory one. Just for your info. I am using a Dtt valve body, I don't know if that would make any different pressure in the line or not. $18. 23 to fix Dodge lack of "quality"

Anybody else had a problem with the hose?

Lacy,

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to keep an eye on mine. I might consider pre-emptively replacing it when I put the valve body on. Ya' know, I like working on my truck, but not on stupid stuff like that. One would think that DC could get something as simple as a hose made correctly. I have to admit that I was a little concerned w/ mine because of the offset that the rubber hose has to do between the heat exchanger and the hard line. Figured I have to replace it before it's time anyway, but also figured to get more than two days out of it. Guess I have a couple months on mine now. How come the dealer wouldn't warranty it?

Later,

Tom

After re-reading your post, I remenbered that the top crimp on mine was not crimped straight. The top fitting was cocked on the rubber hose. I'll definitely replace it w/ the VB install. What a pain, huh?

It's a good idea to replace that line with a line containing new ends or if re-using old ends be sure to remove the ball, spring, and retainer from inside the lower fitting(male) as that is the one way or anti-drainback valve that can bite you by becoming clogged or stuck causing restriction or no cooler flow. With the DTT valvebody the cooler flow is significantly enhanced and while pressures aren't a lot higher, flow is. I replace the hose on every install I do. On 24 valve trucks the check ball is in the rear fitting on the heat exchanger on the side of the engine. After removing the check valve, there may be some converter drainback after sitting for awhile, however with a DTT valvebody letting the engine run for maybe 30 seconds before putting into gear, the drainback will not be noticed as the converter will fill in park. With a stock valvebody, starting in neutral will help. ;) HTH

Thanks James. Good point. I have seen this suggestion recently posted, possibly by you?

Lacy Did you remove your check valve?

Unfortunately I did not remove my check valve, I was going to but it was in the back room being retofitted before I could tell them I wanted to pull it out . I wonder if I pull the line off and try to drive it out if it would work or just be more money for a new line? The new line is holding and not a drop of fluid anywhere. The material they used were 3 times thicker than the ones Dodge used and their crimps ran down the length of the hose. So far so good but I sure wish I had pulled the check valve when I had the chance

Lacy,

From what I've heard, you can still get the ball and spring out, even w/ it attached to the line. So all is not lost. BTW are these hose ends readily available at an equip. or truck supply?

Tom

Tom, they are readily avalilable at any good hose shop. I asked the counterman to make sure they were 37 degree or 45 degree and he told me they were 37 and had them in stock. Another vendor I talked to said it would not make any difference on the 1/2 inch size we are talking about but I wanted to make sure it was right and found a shop that could use my fittings and make the hose and he assured me it was a 37. Anyway it works and I am happy. Saw another article that you had posted in and it said 37 and 45 would work together . I don't know, went with what I thought was right. inarush said it right loose the check valve. Maybe when I get back I am still trying to get the transmission fluid off of the drive. Hope it rains
