I going to run transmission lines on the burb in the next couple of days and would like some opinions on what type of stuff to use. The factory stuff is way to expensive. 1/2" soft copper (L rated), rubber hose? No one seems to carry 1/2" steel.

Any time I need to run any fluid line on any vehicle, other than a simple short line, I go to a truck fleet supplier and get the neccessary hose and fittings. Look for a truck equipment supplier that has Aeroquip, Parker, Weatherhead, or Gates fleet hose. These are the hoses used on all over the road trucks and they come in several SAE classifications depending on what they are to be carrying and at what temperature and pressure. Look under any large truck or off road rquipment and you will see these hoses everywhere. There are fittings available for any application you can imagine. I recommend that you use hose assemblies with JIC swivel fittings and attach these to adapters in each port you need to go to.

If you go this route, remember to use adequate support to safely hold the hose and prevent it from rubbing on anything that would damage it.

These hoses will outlast your vehicle and are very easy to install.

Hope this helps!

Ditto for the above.
Added note. Don't use copper. I made this mistake on my Road Runner in high school. Copper retains heat instead of radiating it like steel or better yet aluminum. Puked two trannys in that poor old Road Runner before an old timer timer told me what was going on. Don't forget to add check valve kit to trans out line to prevent converter drain back.

My 93 D-250 has an auxillary trans. cooler in front of left rear wheel. I am thinking about replacing the rubber hose (about 20 ft. )from trans. to cooler acct. age. bigkids reply to bvanettens post makes me wonder if its necessary. Any thoughts? Also, hose now has coupler in middle, making it four pieces , better to eliminate coupler and just go with 2 ten ft. hoses? Bob
