Well I finally took the plunge and had the Trans. TC/VB done.

All I can say is (like others have mentioned) it's not to be believed.

**NOTE** I am not a "lock-up" system so please don't spit on my shoes:rolleyes:

Bill and Vinnie, and Darren did the job for me and I had the Full trans. , 91%TC, "Towing VB" put in.

The efficiency of this setup is astounding:--) :--)

I had no idea just how soft my original setup was till I turned the tires on the new one.

The day I picked it up it had been raining soooo bad they could not do final WOT test/setup.

Just like when I had the POD's put in, rain storm city.

Anyway, now I see more boost, really feel the engine work, and the truck just rockets ahead in each gear, including OD.

In fact its such a tight connection I'm a little worried about putting my camper fully loaded on. The combo really holds the revs back from a dead stop launch.

(Gonna talk to Bill about this next week. )

I find that I'm across the intersection before engine starts to hit the "power range" but then it lights out like a chetah with its arse on fire.

I put some weight on it this weekend and found that it was a bit "doggy" starting out.

I don't think I'm a slouch as far as 1st Gen uprated HP so we'll see if Bill thinks the 89% is a better choice.

Right now guys if your thinking of going with an aftermarket trans/TV/VB setup, talk to Bill.

I know, there are others in the market, and its your cash, so go for it.

All I can tell you is "I" was treated great :D :D

The work was done in good time, and I got the truck back ready to go. (aside from a few tweaks due to rain delay)

Ok, I did try ONE powerbrake (I stress ONE!) on dry pavement/empty. I brought it up to about 1200 RPM and let go, then nailed it.....

Smoked em all the way thru and including OD:D :D

I let go after about 150' since the smoke was being blown the same way as me. Rocket scientist that I am, I did it around the corner from my house, Not so bright, but what the heck.

My neighbour who was riding with me just roared and said he was gonna tell the weany next to him to sell his 5 Ltr Mustang and get a Dodge:D :D

Average boost> up 2-3 psi

I now see 115 Kph with about 150-200 less RPM than previously at 100 Kph

OD can actually be used to pull out and PASS!

Trans temps down about around town about 100*

Mileage to be announced, was 17. 8 mpg around town.

Park to "D" or "R" engagement is smooth but firm and RPM drops about 175-200 RPM.

Ok, thats all for now.

Interesting post as there are a few non-lockups out there but this is the first post I've see with a DTT transmission, on the lag part of yours you know power will cure that:D

bob, you should check out the quick spooling when you put the 12CM wastegated housing on these engines.

I have driven an 89% tc eqipped truck before. Although it was a 2nd gen truck, it had about 250 RWHP, and it was very snappy off the line. But I think it's the turbo, not the converter.

I think you'd be happier changing over to the wastegated 12 than putting in the 89 TC. You get boost pretty much right now at any speed in any gear. I have only the PW injectors and not turned up the fuel. You can spool the turbo easily at 12-1400... it gets boost NOW at that speed.

Although my tires are silent, you can see it spit dust out when I spin them... Notice I just dropped the hammer at a standstill.

I would dearly love to have Bill do my transmission as well... but every time I look at the prices, it makes tears fall and I realize there's just no way.

I'll end up buying some pieces and mostly doing it myself or with the help of a friend or two.

Congrats, BushWaker.

You will love that tc in time and more hp. Wanted the dtt 92% in my truck when i went for my 1000mile tune up but Bill didn't stock the tc at the time. I did have Bill re&re the new vb to shift hard as posible as i find most shift like my moms car. I like a hard hitting shift and wish for even more.

Power Wagon is on the right track when he mentions faster spooling but i think a 12cm will hurt the top end too much. I wouldn't go smaller then 14cm with 1st gen and the kind of driving we find here in B. C. and carrying a camper. Smaller is great for the city but we don't live and play in the city. With the right tweeking even with the 18cm you can turn the wheels for quite aways without power braking. I was able to brake the wheels loose at about the 10' mark by making anough boost with everything stock on the truck other than tweeking. The 16cm helped spool faster but did note small drop in top end. I didn't put the pod's in until after the vb/91% tc so i'll never know what the pod's and the stock transmission would have done. Talked to Piers and his recondation with my setup now, is his worked over hx40 with a16cm housing. He said the worked over hx35 would not change much for my setup. Which would mean new turbo, different 16cm from what i have, and new exhaust. Better of spending money on a new pump when it goes. So when time and $$$$ alows spend it wisely. ;)

Are you trying for BD days?

JFulmer, you're right about more power, but I made a promise to a transmission guy;) BTW, I happened to stop in at Piers' shop today. Hmmmmm,,, you sneaky little booger you... ... . Oo.

You're quite right, I've not seen anyone showing the DTT stuff in a 1st Gen. I may have overlooked the sig. but I don't recall seeing one. Bill says he doesn't do many. Heck I don't need no 'steenkeen lock-up' ;) ;)

I would NOT go back to the ole 'slipOmatic' though.

PW, I'm thinking your right about the housing. I was actually gonna go with a 14cm prior to the trans. work, but the timing just didn't work out. Maybe I will yet. I really like the amount of power transfer I'm getting from the 91%'er

I think the 12 is really too small since I do see higher EGT's now that there is little/no slippage and the engine actually has to work. The weather has been so bad that its pretty hard to do any serious shift point/boost/temp testing.

Right now I just do not need more highway speed thats for sure. This thing wants to rock up past 145 Kph (90 MPH) and is literally pulling like its in 3rd at midrange. I kid you not:--) :--)

I may be able to get away with the 14cm and slightly higher EGT since I don't need 90 MPH with a camper on anyway. Time/testing will tell.

nascar mark, the more I drive it the more I think I'l try and work the rest of my setup to fit. I went in looking to get the 89%'er and Bill really thought that the 91% was the best fit.

I didn't want 'soft tissue damage' every time it shifted so I had the "towing VB" put in. I would like to see firmer shifts having driven it now. Bill took me out for a ride when I picked it up and he also said . . ' it could shift a bit firmer'

Apparently if I switch to Castrol Syntec that will help firm it up so I may try that before making VB changes. Heck the Mag-Hytec pan and TC drain means 19 + litres of oil :--):--)

I need shares in an oil company.

Anyway, thanks for the ideas, let em rip if you have more...

Regards, Bob.
