transmission morning delay

When i first start up in the morning, I have to wait a few seconds before the transmission will engage. If I just put it in drive after waiting for my oil pressure to come up, it will act like it's in neutral. If I rev it a little, it will grab. If I wait a few minutes before putting it in drive, it works fine. Fluid levels are fine, and temp has never been above 140 degrees. What's up? Is this normal?

I had the same problem with a 727 with my 360 gas in a 1984 Dodge, never did figure it out, but the transmission always worked great after it warmed up and only happened on cold mornings. A friend of mine kept telling me that my front pump was dying, and reverse was soon to go. At the time I could not rub two nickels together, so I figured I would drive it until it broke. I put another 30k miles on it towing all kinds of stuff and it always got me home. I sold the truck to a guy who had a horse farm a couple years ago, and the last I knew it was still going strong(missing a good portion of the body now #ad
). One thing that I do when I start the truck up was leave it in NEUTRAL to let the pump cycle the transmission fluid before I put it into gear. If you can find a transmission shop you can trust you might get them to look at it.

Mine does the same thing, remember a discussion on here before about it, several people said the same thing about the "pump", it loses prime after sitting overnite, they said the same thing, that it will build up pressure faster in neutral, it works for mine, have had it for a year now, added 10000 miles, no better, no worse.

I had the same problem with the transmission not going into gear after the truck wasn't run for several days. I installed a Trans-go shift improver kit with a new manual control valve. This valve cured the problem,the transmission engages almost instantly, hot or cold. Hope this helps. Rick.

Nothing real serious - the torque converter seals are leaking, and after sitting for longer periods of time, all the fluid drains back into the sump - then, there is a delay until the pump operates long enough to refill the TC... More an inconvenience than a problem, unless the increased fluid level is able to leak out of the sump from a bad gasket or dipstick O-ring...

My torque convertor is new. I have already installed the Trans-go kit. Guess I'll live with it.
