Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Transmission mount servicability

I'm in the process of converting to a G56. Today I dropped the transmission crossmember and the mount and installed a crossmember I got from a member who lives in snow country (not too rusty, but more than mine) and a new mount from NAPA that was made in India. My thinking was after 715k and nearly 13 years the original mount needed replacing so my plan was just to use the old one for measurements to mod the crossmember. Now that I have the mount cleaned up it appears that it is fully serviceable. It is solid rubber and the one from India is not. My question is has anyone actually seen a transmission mount fail from miles or age? Any opinions about reusing it and just including the new mount with the transmission when I sell it?

Hey Gary, that's good news for me. Keep checking mine and still looks good. But then I am only at a measly 205k on mine. Good luck with the conversion.

Well Smitty, it appears that no one has had one fail.



I thought I had almost everything until I took a closer look at the SBC clutch box. They sent me an OFE, rather than a plain Con O, so am waiting for it to arrive.



I'll have to come visit you after the conversion so you can check it out. Won't be as cool as your gear splitter though

Sounds good to me. Would like to check it out. Cool one is on me.
On a different note, have been spending a lot of time on the C/R threads both 5. 9 and 6. 7 engines. They are so sensitive to contaminated fuel issues, dealer cop outs on warranty, etc, I am glad we still have our rattlin old 12 valves. If mine lasts half as long as yours, I will be too old to care and will not be towing anyway.

Until then I will be happy with the noise and "at will" smoke.
