I've got a 98. 5 quad 4x4, 24V manual with 81,000 miles.
I've already gotten hit with the 5th gear fiasco (at 60,ooo) and oh, yeah, LP and the VP44 replaced at 75,000 but that's a different really sad story.
I was towing my 5th wheel (10Klb) when I started getting a crunching/grind into 4th. All other gears just fine.
The dealer tells me today that I need a complete rebuild for $4,500. 00 I didn't bother asking why... I figured he's tell me that since I'm so used to taking it up the tail that I'd just bend over.
So, what the heck could have possibly gone wrong that would make a 4th gear problem require a complete rebuild when all the other gears "feel" just fine.
Is this just another case of a Dodge dealer trying to make up for their lackluster new vehicle sales by raping their customer base?
Hmmm... sure miss my 95 12V 4x4 ... never had a damn bit of trouble with it... .
