Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) transmission not shifting right

I Have a 97 2500 stock with auto transmission. Last year it started shifting from 2nd to neutral and not into 3rd or over drive. I changed oil and filter that cured it for 6 months. It has started again. I again Changed oil and filter. It is still shifting from 2nd into neutral. If I stop and start again it will amost always start shifting normally. It Continues to shift normally untill it is shut off. . Then it starts all over again. Any ideas???:-

Let me reword this... ... ... My transmission jumps from 2nd to neutral. And then back into 2nd. It continues to jump back and forth untill I stop and let it idle in drive. Then it will shift normally untill I shut the motor off. What controls the 2-3 shift??????

2nd to 3rd upshift

I'm prety sure is fully hydraulic. I can check the service manual later today. You should have a 46RE transmission if memory serrves. Mostly hydraulic until you get in 3rd (drive) gear. You have some eclectronic help in the valve body. Are you sure its full of the correct transmission fluid? Checked in neutral wit hthe engine idleing at normal operating temperature. Ken irwin

Have you checked your front band adjustment? Could have issues there, a sticky valve in the VB, or a problem the direct apply circuit. You really need to run some pressure tests when it happening to see what the circuits are doing.
