Ok I dumped the old fluid and replaced it But acording to the dip stick I over filled it by about one half to three quarters of a quart . The question is do I just let it go or take some out? Deep dish mag hytec pan I put 11 qts of amsoil in Thanks SkiOo.
If you overfilled it, it will force the fluid out of a weep hole,upper/inside of the bell housing, leaving drops of transmission fluid on the fins of your transmission pan and driveway.
I have the deep sump Mag-Hytek pan. Am I correct in assuming that if I am down a quart, all I have done is under-utilize the extra cappacity of the deep pan since the filter pickup has been spacered to the bottom of the deep pan or is there something else in the transmission that needs the fluid level closer to the guts of the trans.
Pretty much. The filter is where the fluid enters the system so if its spced down there is no real negative other than the lost capacity and extra fluid.
It is much harder on an automatic transmission to have it "overfilled", than under filled by a quart, as the quantities listed for transmissions are in "pints".
Depending on how far it's overfilled, if the fluid level is high enough and is in contact with spinning parts it could lead to aeration of the fluid which would then cause low line pressure and then your transmission could start slipping which could overheat it. Could be bad news.
