have a '99 3500 quad cab with a custom steel car hauler body. The transmission slips at just under 50 mph, the tach goes up and down about 600 R. P. M. If I turn the overdrive off the same thing happens at about 40 M. P. H. Once I get past this speed it seems to be o. k. It is hard to get it to go past this speed as the transmission slips very badly.

I am guessing the Torque converter is attempting to lock up, and it is going in and out of lock up. The actual transmission seems to be tight.

A little history. The transmission was slipping and very loose last year. I adjusted the bands and changed the fluid. The fluid was fine, nothing was in the pan, and the transmission was functioning fine until now. The truck just passed 80,000 miles.

I have disconnected the batteries for several hours then slowly depressed the accelerator in an attempt to correct the problem, but this did not work. I repeated this procedure several times. My fear is that the thing will just quit and leave me stranded by the side of the road (like it did when I was 1,000 miles away from home and the injector pump went... )Any ideas? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
