Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission Problem

All of a sudden, it feels like I am starting out in 3rd (2nd?) gear when in Drive. It was fine until a couple days ago. Only 26,000 miles and fluid level/color are fine. It also sometimes doesn't want to shift out of whatever gear it starts in. Everything works fine if I start in 2 or 1 and switch back to Drive at about 15 to 20 mph. Any ideas what is wrong? Like to avoid my first ever trip to the dealer, if possible. Thanks!!

You probably need new sensors in the trans. Gov Solenoid,and pressure transducer. They should be warrantied,expect to pay about 200 bucks for the parts+1 -1. 5 hr labor if they arent covered. Until yougeti t to the dealer,take it easy on it,3rd gr starts can destroy the transmission.

Thanks. Took it into dealer and they replaced the solenoid and pressure switch. Everything seems to be working well again. First trip ever in 4 years to a dealer, and they seem to have done a good job ... under warranty, and I didn't even buy it there!
