I have a 97 with a 47RE automatic, ever since I got the truck from my mom, which sat for a wail before I got it.It has been making a shudder/in and out of over driver or torque lock up,when the torque converter starts to lock up and I give it more power it shudders /in and out of OD or torque lock up .I've been reading about, torque lock up problems, throttle positioning censer problems and electric issues .My Dad did put a banks system on the truck, but never beefed up or upgraded transmission to handle the new hp or torque.I replaced the TPS, and it seems to help a little till I give it power.Do you guys think it's a torque converter problem or slipping clutches in the trans or a pressure problem. I stuck and don't want to keep throwing money in to it if it would be cheaper to go with a transmission that is built for the new power and torque.
Thanks Dave

Sure the last Sentence, a stock 47 with a boosted Engine goes never well.
Even with the stock power they dont last that's why we have the 48 that's a little better up to the task.

So yes, stop spend money on it and go for a built unit.

Who make a decent trans for a reasonable price?
Might be worth checking out what you have first. Check to see if you have any local builders. 3k - 5k is what I have seen ATS, Suncoast, the $1500 stuff out there you find on goggle for a whole entire trans is not going to hold up IMO.

There are some certain years where there is a group of grounds in a wiring harness I think on the passenger side, its under sized and poor design from the factory, might be 98.5 but check for that kinda stuff first, there are some known issues with the alternator harness causing some issues, also check your connection harness at the trans its self, could be something simple, or its just tired and been overpowered for sometime now.

TCC lock up issues are pretty common theme, lots of threads on troubleshooting that, also good threads on how to bypass it and manual lock up switches. Some pretty in expensive fixes for sure.
