Folks:
It hasn't been my summer, or my truck's for that matter. . The APPS sensor in my 2500 died in June, $500 or so to replace. Then the ac went out, rusted evaporator core, $1550. , and it's still not all that cold. The next week, overdrive started cutting in and out. Another $1500 in a shift kit and a new torque convertor, and it's still doing the same thing. It's a 2000 with 113k mileage. With all of the problems I'm having, I just wish that I could be assured of at least getting something fixed for all the dollars I'm throwing at it.
To that end, I've started wondering about the feasibility of junking the automatic and fitting a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission in its place. So for starters, is this possible, or is there just too much work to retro-fitting a manual in place of the garbage transmission currently in place? Are there any shops you guys might recommend where this might be done? Any ideas on what the cost for something like this would be? Any other thoughts? Has anybody else done this? Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. This vehicle is paid off, and I'd like to think that I could get another 10 years out of it. Living in Texas, body rot isn't going to be a problem. Anyway, thanks for any replies-
