Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) transmission Problems with codes

Help,

I've got auto trans problems. In drive it has no power until you get up to 30-40 mph. It won't shift until I hit 2700 rpm. It doesn't matter if I light or heavy on the accelorator. If I manually shift it from 1-2-D, it is fine.

It has set the following codes: 1693,1757 & 1762. From what I understand 1693 is generic. The 1757 means GOV pressure is not = to 15-20 PSI. The 1762 means GOV pressure offset volts too low or high. I unplugged the batteries and it keeps the same codes.

My ?s are:

1. is there anything else I can check before I take it to the dealer? If it could just be a simple sensor replacement, I'd rather do it myself.

2. If I do have to take it in, does anyone have any experience with the dealer in Lawton, OK??? I'm down here at Fort Sill for school.



I appreciate the help, I have a 1700 mile drive back to Rhode Island on the 30th.

Sounds like you are low on transmission fluid. Check it when it is hot, manually shift it through all of the gears, then check it in neutral with the engine running (on level ground) If it is low on fluid, the next question is why? Sorry I don't know about any dealers service wise in OK, other then there are several good ones. Good luck.

The components I've had fail on me were the governor pressure transducer & output speed sensor. I replaced the governor solenoid when I replaced the transducer. It would be of great help if you could get pressure readings for the line & governor circuits but you have to have access to 100lb & 600lb manual gauges to see what pressures the transmission is generating. The output speed sensor located in the tail housing would not let mine shift 1-2 even when I started out in manual 1 & moving the shifter to manual 2. I'd put my money on the governor pressure transducer but keep in mind a wiring problem could exist also. It sounds like the transmission is going into limp mode with your no power problem. I believe that gives you a 3rd gear start. I know if you disconnect the harness @ the transmission it will put it in limp mode.

Pit Bull, It definately felt like it was low on fluid. The first thing I did was check for leaks and check fluid level.

Rattlnrench, you ended up being right. It was the Governer Pressure Transducer. Since I have no way to fix things here, I took it to Eddie Cordes Dodge in Lawton, OK. Very nice service department. No appointment, I just pulled off my EZ and dropped it off. By noon I had a message on my phone saying it was done. No warranty questions. They just replaced the sensor, serviced the transmission and dropped it off in front of the showroom. Not to bad for the first bit of warranty work.
