I have some strange things going on with my transmission. When in stop and go traffic, if I let off the brake and let the truck idle forward, I get a lot of vibration. As I accelerate, it seems to disappear. Also, if I goose it out of the hole I get the same thing, but accompanied with a strange noise. This seems to be getting progressively worse. I have also recently sprung a trans. fluid leak -- I have been keeping a close eye on trans. fluid level and it is a very slow leak. Any ideas guys??? Thanks in advance for your comments...

When was the last fluid change? Can you pull the inspection cover and look at the flex plate? Look for possible loose bolts or cracked F/P. Where is it leaking? Is it a grinding noise or or a hum? Is transfer case fluid level OK?

U-joints can act like this. Could be T/C dying. We need more detail.

I haven't changed the fluid since I bought it. Color seems fine -- I had been planning to change it soon anyhow. I haven't checked the transfer case fluid level, I need to do that. It shudders at low rpm's and makes alot of vibration and noise when I hammer it from a stop -- it doesn't occur if I'm out of first gear. The sound is hard to describe, I guess I would classify it as a hum -- I don't hear any metal grinding... I haven't located the leak yet... Thanks again for your help.

N, (Don't know your first name)

I'm assuming that you have 17k since you bought it. If it is a hum/vibration it could be as simple as a clogged filter. ie: low line pressure. If you are handy with a wrench, do a transmission service, you may be able to fix it yourself. There is a thread about different filters for the 47re/rh, you decide.

I would pull the pan before I damaged anything, an hour or so taking care of your truck can be encouraging.

One other thing... ..... Does it act the same in reverse?
