I have a 95 Dodge cummins 5. 9 with a automatic, at 70 it goes from 2000 rpm's to 2200 rpm's and them back again. It does this over and over, I pulled up the brake pedal and thoght maybe it was the torque convertor locking and unlocking... nope that was not it... . and guesses? We even tried in drive and it still does it... Please help!

Most probably the TPS. Tons of posts about this problem. The brake pedal is not involved with this problem. Try cleaning the TPS with contact cleaner. Hose down the rod coming out of it while working the throttle linkage back and forth. That may fix it.

A friend of mine had the same problem with his 96 CTD/47RE trans. He bought a simple fix from a guy on eBay that consisted of installing a short length of shielded cable from the ECM to the throttle position sensor. Apparently the alternator puts a lot of electrical "noise" on the TPS input to the ECM and causes the problem. I surely thought Dodge would have figured this problem out long ago and was admittedly very skeptical that the fix would work. However, after installation the trans settled down and has worked flawlessly since.

If you are interested I think I still have the instructions for the mod. Let me know, Lektrikman

hey Lektrikman, please send me a copy of those instructions. I'm having the same problem and i have cleaned the tps a few times.

Do a good search first on the subject first. On the 95 or prior you don't need the shielded cable. Just do a good cleaning and separate the wires from the original harness and run it by itself. A good cleaning will probably fix the prob. Even with cleaning if the TPS has dead spots in it or badly worn wiper it's a replace. They do wear out.
