Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) transmission Problems

Well I think I hurt the transmission last weekend.



She's not shifting through the gears nicely. It seems like the transmission is slipping after I come to a stop or it is trying to take off in 2nd gear.

I've read all the post and it sounds like the perminate fix is a new transmission. So here's the poll:



Who has the best transmission at the cheapest price?



I plan on getting some sort of triple loc converter too.

I am running a TFOD modified vavle body and a custom multi disk converter. All the setup was done for under 1400 bucks, and i have put a little over 400 ponies through it for about 14,000 miles with no problems what so ever.

i voted, but you just opened a can of worms that could easily be construed as going against the board ROE w/ respect to transmission threads, and will become heated shortly.



Two trucks in my sig, both have the same transmission in them for reasons that don't need posted here.

Hmmm... I didn't notice that part of his post the first time around. It does appear he's already decided on a builder.

30k over the last year up to 460hp and my DTT exchange transmission has not missed a beat dragracing, towing, general daily abuse. No experience with the others but I wouldnt hesitate going with them again. Plus the personal service cant be beat. Pretty sure they dont sell or need a triple disk for their dodge trannies.

I got my DTT with the view of going full timing in 2 years and I want zero trouble towing a heavy 5er. I went to the majors web sites and asked questions. I (me, myself, I) was most satisfied with DTT.



I suggest you do the same (ask questions on all majors websites). It boils down to who YOU are most satisfied with.



Notice NO transmission flames?, very delicate subject though.

I like the customer service from DTT. Don't know about the other transmission companies but I do like the way DTT will always answer my questions. Same can be said of the other vendors I have dealt with as well.

try goerend bros they build their own triple tc with a lifetime warranty and a 100,000 mile no time limit on complete trans no matter what application and no core charge he just trusts you to send back the core. Just got mine last week whole complete trans for $2900

Don't worry about the can of worms some think you opened. Each person who responds to this thread gets to decide if they want to get down in the dirt with the worms or not. Some like to promote the product of their choice by telling you what’s wrong with what the other guy sells. Some will simply tell you how the product of their choice performs. Personally I believe that anyone who has to run the other guys product down to sell theirs has absolutely nothing of value to sell. This also goes for those who insist on running down another brand in a failed attempt to make the product they own look better. The truth is the act of purchasing a product adds absolutely nothing to its quality, craftsmanship or engineering. With that said there are two companies that I know of that don't talk transmission trash to sell their stuff. (Theirs probably more so if anyone reading this knows of another please take no offense because none is intended. )

I looked at Suncoast and ATS, both stand behind what they make. Neither one talked junk to me about the other brands. The people I talked to who own these two products are happy with their choice. After ample consideration of both companies I chose ATS. The ATS transmission and torque converter has done everything Clint said it would do. The people at ATS have been professional, honest and just, out right good people to deal with. I can honestly recommend them to anyone.

About 30,000 on my DTT transmission and hasn't skipped a beat. Ended up talking to them all and doing a bunch of research. After numerous conversations with the various builders it was a no-brainer for me. Good luck with whatever you decide.

For me it was ATS. I talked to all the major transmission Builders, and went with the TripleLok. Clint and his family gave me Outstanding customer service, they even let me take Clint's new truck to lunch one day while my truck was being worked on. (Don't tell him I told you!)



ATS has the most Bang for the Buck because you don't need an entire rebuild if your trans is low-mileage. You can just get the TripleLok and VB.



But you should do your homework, talk to them all, then go with the people you are most comfortable with.

Look it all I'm not trying to start any fights or wars:-{}



I'm just trying to make an educated purchase and want to hear all the pro's and cons of All. When spending detween 4-5k on a transmission you want to be comfortable with the product you by.



I've olny had this truck for about 1 1/2 years and really have had 0 problems. I'm still on the original lift pump as far as I know.



But like a Stupid A$$ I gave in to peer pressure when we were checking out the Off Road Park for our SETDR Event in May. I have never had a 4X4 before so I asked my Co- Oganizer what to do.



He said and I Quote " when you drop it . . Just punch it!"



So I did



Stupid me I was in 4 hi



In she went, Up to the door handles she was, chugging away



And through she came! Next time I'll learn that 4 lo is the way to go. I've got the video to prove it if anybody is interested.

I will save you some money on a Triplelok. My ATS converter is being warrantied, I will sell it to you and save you a few hundred bucks, its brand new!

ted jannetty's transmission are great mine has 45. 000 on it (HARD USE)and it works as good now as it did then. b/d converter also cost less installed then most trannys cost alone

Just got one from Dave Goerand and the price was almost as good as the customer service and warranty. He spent alot of time on the phone with me making sure he understood what I wanted and all that. The price was pretty good as well about 3 and change with shipping. Not bad for a triple loc and 100000 mile warranty
