transmission Question

Ive been wanting to get me a new shifter for my '93. The one on there now looks like it has some kind of extender made out of a rod and a nut welded on it. Im not sure what its purpose was but it just dont look stock. Now to the question. Ive had the truck about 7 months now, and i have just assumed that it still has the ole getrag in there, but just to make sure how can i tell a difference in the 360 and the NV4500?

If I remember right "Getrag" is cast into the driver side of the trans. A 4500 only has a metal plate on the PTO cover with the build and model numbers on it.

Well i couldnt uncover any ID marks on the transmission, the only thing i could see was this: #ad




Can any of yall tell by that?

That sticker makes reference to a GM fluid as well as a Dodge fluid, so most likely it's an NV4500. If it don't say GETRAG bigger-n-life on the drivers side, it aint one.

If it's the NV unit, you should consider a short shifter kit... it moves the shifter over closer to the driver and is really a nice mod... . my brother did this when he did his conversion over to the '4500 and REALLY likes it alot...

there a guy on the nwbombers that makes custom sticks. i believe he takes the stock shifter and custom bends it to bring it closer to you. i know the guys that have them wont go without anymore. ill try and find some more info.
