Having some transmission problems. At first it seems would start driving off and shift into second but not into third, I held rpm up to about 2100 for a few seconds and it finally jumped into third and drove home ok. transmission fluid level ok. Later I disconnected batteries to hopefully reset the computer etc. . It drove good shifting good again, drive a couple hrs on interstate no problem. Hooked up a motorcycle trailer and began towing and had to pull up a fairly steep hill, and it went about half way up the hill and wouldnt pull anymore, held rpm about 2100 and it was just stalled on the hill. Managed to turn around and park the thing.

2001 Dodge Ram with the Cummins eng 4wd, automatic. Trying to figure which transmission it has. Looked at stampings on side of transmission and it's hard to read. Best I can figure it's FK5211S851AB for the part number. Can someone cross this to the transmission model? I am wanting to get good parts and fix this transmission right, so I dont have anymore trouble with it. I dont pull real heavy loads, mostly just driving the truck with no towing. Any info is appreciated.

Mine was doing the same thing, very erratic shifts, hanging in first, hanging in second and sometimes taking off in third. I went through it on friday and found lots of metal in the pan from the front band being worn out and scoring the front clutch retainer. Upgraded to a Goerend bros. triple disc converter while I was in there, wish I could have afforded billet shafts. Snoking is right, 47re

47RE, thanks for the replies... I had searched some of the transmission messages, and have seen a lot about Goerend and Suncoast. What's the best convertor for general application as I described? I think I would like a triple disc though. any other upgrades needed to drop the triple disc in? Which is the best for the $ or are they about the same? Any suggestions on a transmission shop for this work around Mt. Pleasant, Tx?

Thanks...

I called Goerend today, and they were very helpful. He suggested getting the scan codes and being a 2001 you can do this yourself, with "ignition" key switching, on, off, on, off, on. . I had a governor pressure sensor code, voltage out of range. I bought a sensor for around $75 from a dealership and some fluid and filter from a local auto store. Had a nearby mechanic install the stuff. . and it's shifting great again. Tied it up to a big tree and pulled in 4wd (on the dirt) and spun them all. I'd say it's pulling again. . When the time comes for a real job on the transmission, gonna call goerend!!
