Hi every body my trucks still up at carson dodge. Heres what was done complete rebuild of trans. bd parts installed are as follows: bd torque convertor, bd valve body, bd pressure lock and bd autolock. The trans. shifts ok up untill you get to over drive. ( won't shift) When the engine is up to tempture still won't shift. Then when the trans. tempture is above 140 then it will work fine. I think it's the temperture sensor in the trans. This is the second 130 mile trip up to carson dodge to get my truck and the second time it has not been working right. They first tryed to tell me thats normal i said no way you can't drive for 5 miles at 2800 rpm doing 50 mile perhour untill the trans. warms up above 140. How about some help here guys. Thanks Bill

Hi Bill, couple questions. Has anybody checked what the engine coolant sensor is reading? Is the factory trans temp sending unit in it's proper place. If the engine coolant temp sensor is reading below 65 degrees it will delay OD/lockup. Have Carson Dodge put a scanner on it & check out what the two sensors are saying.

Piers thanks for the information. The factory sending unit( the one that lites up the trans. over heat lite on the dash) in the trans is not in place. When i had the mag-hytec pan installed they used that site for the temper gauage that i also had installed. I will try to talk to there trouble shooter in the morning and see if they have thought about the thing you told me about. IF anybody as any other ideas it would be great i miss my truck. thanks again will keep you posted Bill

Piers your right that what the tec up at carson dodge said was the problem. They reinstalled the factory sensor in the trans, line and drilled the pan to install the tempture gauage. Haven't seen the truck yet will check it out next week. Thanks Bill

I put a TEE in the line where the trans temp sensor goes. then put the factory sensor and the sensor to my temp guage in the TEE. The factory sensor took for ever to get warm . when the weather was cold it took several miles before it would shift into overdrive then a few more miles before it would go into lockup. I put on a maghype pan put the gauge sensor in the pan and factory sensor back the way it was. it works the way it is suspose to now.

Greetings from the land of the "Frozen Chosen". Indeed, it is possible to run for 5 miles screaming a cold diesel until the trans "decides" it's warm enough to shift into overdrive.
My trick--I start my truck and let it idle in low gear with the parking brake on. This allows the convertor to work against the trans fluid and warm it up faster. It also makes the engine (and hence the heater) warm up faster. I do this from temps of 40 degrees down to about 0 degrees. Colder than that (or if I'm in a hurry) I'll gently powerbrake at about 1200 RPM for about 30 seconds, this will warm the oil enough to get the transmission to shift. I know I'm not overheating the oil because I have a transmission temp gauage installed.

Of course, if I was smart, I would have never crippled my mighty Cummins by ordering a slushbox behind it. #ad

I did the same thing this summer. Put the sender back in the stock position and it worked fine. Recently (2 weeks ago) relocated the gauge temp sender from the pan to the line. HUGE difference in readings from when it was in the pan. I was going to add a T like Steve did but didn't like the idea of all that weight hanging from the tube. Instead, I went to the local hydraulic line shop and made up a new flexible line from the cooler (fluid/fluid) to the line out from the trans. Upgraded the hose a bunch too. Used a tee from the cooler, and used barbed fittings for the hose instead of crimp ons. Bought 1 foot of hose and have enough to redo it if necessary.

Pretty easy to replace all the lines to rubber lines. I first put the factory sensor too far away from the flow of oil to get a good reading. My transmission did the same things you decribed. I then installed my factory sensor back to the factory position using different fittings (in my new hose) and installed my temp sending unit about 6 inches downstream. Every thing works great now. It only cost me about thirty dollars to convert. I'll never lose sleep over those pesky plastic connectors again. #ad

Hi everybody, got my truck back today and boy does it the trans. sure work good. It was cold in carson city when i picked up my truck and with a little warmup the trans. shifted great. The truck never shifted like this from the start. With all those bd parts working with the bd brake you almost don't think you have an auto trans. Good sharp shifts, will hold the truck back going down hill better in 3rd and 4th so you don't need the truck brakes. You can really hear the bd brake berr berr berr. I'm going to check my milage with no torque slippage maybe I'll have better milage. And the best part no heat build up in the trans. when useing the bd brake and boy did i usr it coming home from carson city via hi50. Carson dodge did a great job on the truck they had some problems but they never gave me any crap and just kept working untill they solved the problems. Happy trucking Bill
