Good day. I am pretty new to these forums but one of the most common questions I've seen is about TC/Shifting problems. Usually it's described as TC cycling or random shifting between 3rd and 4th.

Most people are paranoid about their transmissions more than any other part, except for lift pumps.

I believe that the most effective solutions should be stickied somewhere noticeable. If they already are, I haven't been able to find them, and I've searched... a lot.

Here are some I've stolen from other threads on the subject. I reckon they should be all grouped together somewhere obvious. None of these solutions is rocket science and can be easily done at home. I haven't done it yet so I'm not the guy to ask for directions.

If you find more, feel free to add them. There has been some reports of success with all of these, but not everybody has had success with one or more of them. If once doesn't' work for you, another might.

If we can't get it stickied, then this thread, or one like it, should be regularly bumped to the top. To further spread the word, I'll also be posting this elsewhere. In my mind, solving some problems is more important than forum solidarity.

Good luck.

ATS Diesel Solution

Suncoast Converters Solution

Dodge Ram Cummins 24V Truck Converter Clutch Cycling Repair.

Diesel Transmission Technology - DTT Performance Diesel Transmission and Power Accessories (It's listed as 'Noise Filter' in the first section of the price list)

BD Power - About BD (BD doesn't seem to list their noise filter. You'll have to call them about it. This link is for the BD wiring harness through Summit Racing. I can't find a description of it on the Summit site but it's supposed to be the right one. I'd call or email to double check. )

Also there is a ground/battery terminal cleaning sequence I have heard about a diode/choke setup on the alternator. Details would be appreciated.

I've seen some of your posts. Success like yours is one reason I wanted to try get as many real solutions in one place. It's a real problem for a lot of people and it could end up costing a new transmission.

It seems that they all seem to work, (and are so cheap and easy), but different ones seem to work for different people. Getting as many successful options together in one place seemed like a good idea to me.

My transmission seems ok for now but I haven't driven it enough to really know. Regardless, I'll be doing some pre-emptive repair when I get back. I'd rather not wait until I actually have a problem which could cost me a transmission.

Good contributions. Let's hear more success stories and options. I'll be adding new ones to the opening post as I come across them.

Got a link to work above. Don't konw why, but it won't work when cut and pasted. I copied it directly from my url line. I also have a copy of the PDF saved on my computer. This solution works, and it is almost free. :)

Yah... for some reason, the links will work at least once, then they just stop working. I'll have to try hyperlinking them, I guess.

Joe,

I just recently was trying to find those very same solutions. Searching for them was an involved and time consuming task. Took me several hours before I ran across only two of them. Tin foil wrapped around the ground leads, and the DTT noise filter.

I also cleaned all of the ground and battery connections as per DTT's instructions. Installed their noise filter and took off immediately on a 4,000 mile trip. The transmission worked flawlessly on that trip.

Was a real relief, because it was about to tear itself apart with all of the violent up/down shifting going on at the wrong times.

I've been off the forum for too long and haven't been looking around much. But an FAQ section with this kind of thing pegged in one place all the time would be a good thing.

Thanks for putting it all in one place.

John

DTT noise filter has worked on everyone I saw. But you must clean, and keep in good condition, the grounds.

JoeCanuck, which fix worked for you?

I am rather unhappy that Chrysler did not address and fix this problem either pre or post production. None of the fixes are that expensive or involved. Maybe they like selling transmissions...

Actually, I haven't done any of the fixes yet. I'm planning on doing something before it wrecks my transmission. I am leaning towards an overkill approach; the ATS solution, (which includes the Suncoast mod), and also adding a noise filter.

I agree with you about Chrysler letting down its customers. I can think of 3 items which they have irresponsibly ignored; the transmission lockup issue, the crappy lift pumps and the magical dissolving dashes.

All of these would have been cheap and easy for Chrysler to fix. Instead, they let their customers pay through the nose. I wonder how many former customers have gone to the more reliable competition.

I checked and cleaned every ground I could find, as well as the battery terminals. At the same time I installed the DTT noise filter. The problem has not returned in several months. Not sure which gets the credit for solving my problem. I guess I could have done one fix, then checked to see if it worked before doing the other, but I just wanted it fixed and did not want to mess around with it any more than I had to...

Good luck,

Scott-

I would use whatever gauge wire is currently in the bundle, or heavier. It's not the gauge that seems to be the problem, it's the routing.

I have been running the noise filter for about 3 months now and oh my I am so mad that I spent all my time trying to fix this stupid hunting and dead pedal problem and a little 13. 00 part was all it took to finally get this thing behind me. I once again love my truck even though it does have a slight delay on downshifting. I live with it if I need it to downshift now I do it myself. Great information on this post and it makes me so happy to be enjoying my truck again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you and incase that wasn't enough THANK YOU.
