Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Transmission shifting problem

Looking at purchasing a 1995 1 ton auto truck. When cruising at 50-65 mph, engine rpm increases approx 300 rpm, then drops back to normal. This can happen once in 50 miles, or 10 times in 50 miles. Help! Has anybody ever run into this type of problem?
