I have acquired a second truck also an '08 but it has a serious trans problem. PO700 & PO871 codes When it fails it locks into 4th gear The T/C won't lock up and the engine brake stops working. Shut the truck down for a few minutes and the problem goes away for an hour, day or a week but it always comes back. Previous owner replaced the TCM. I had a shop replace the solenoid pack and a sensor. No change.Harnesses have been inspected and resistance tested.
My favorite shop closed its doors a while back Jerry's Transmission is no more. No one else around here seems to understand the 68RFE . So if you know of a good shop in the south L.A. county area or even east to Riverside county. I am right on the line between L.A. & Orange counties.
Alternatively I may just need to bite the bullet and buy a new trans. Any suggestions? I'm not racing and the truck is essentially stock. There will be some heavy towing of construction equipment so I'll be looking for a transmission that can stand up to that.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I checked with them, They want no truck with the 68RFE. Sorry about the antiquated pun. But Thanks. I found a place in Riverside called Luke's by doing a search. They seem pretty knowledgeable but it's a ways to drive with a grumpy truck.

I regret having my 48re done by an authorized DTT shop 5.5 hrs east of here. Some issues came up and it entailed a lot of driving.
If at all possible find a competent builder close to you.
Maybe someone will chime in.

Fortunately we're only talking 40 miles, Plus Triple A is doing the transport free since I haven't used any tows in 35 years of membership.

Lukes has been around for Year's and Know's his Stuff. He use to give the dirt track racing guy's a warr and would stand behind what he built to the fact if they Broke it He would Fix it for Free . I would say Give him a call and see what they say.

Luke's has my truck right now. Dave gave me the estimate this afternoon. A tad under $2900.00 including an upgraded Torque converter. That doesn't include tax or fluids but it's about a grand less than I was expecting.I especially like the fact that he rebuilds in house and has tooled up to handle these transmissions.
Since I found the recommendation for his shop I have talked to a number of local guys who are happy to drive the 35 miles to get there.

I just wanted to follow up with the disposition on my 68RFE problem. I took it to Luke's Transmission in Riverside Ca. And though they had a tough time with a pesky glitch in the valve body, they stayed with it until they got it fixed. Dave is a great guy to deal with and very well informed.
These guys do all their rebuilds in house and their crew has a couple centuries of collective experience.
For just under 3k including taxes I got a fully rebuilt trans and a billet heavy duty converter. My truck now shifts better than new.
They are located in the western end of Riverside not far from the I-15 .
