HA! My transmission made it a whole 4000 miles after Dodge's 5 star technician rebuilt it and I'm stock as can be. Fluid and filters only. I haven't been back yet to get them to fix it but around town driving I run a full needle width over the 200 mark on the temp gauge and before the rebuild I usually ran with the needle just under or at the 200 mark in 100 degree temps. I'm way over that and its onlybeen in the 50's.

Oh yeah, and now it thinks it has a tow haul mode. When I slow down, I get a pretty significant downshift from 2 to 1. Never did yhay before the rebuild.

I'm doing some work at a different dealer this week and will have them look/rebuild it again. I wish someone knew of a dodge dealer in central florida who would stick an aftermarket torque converter and valve body in while they had it apart.

Oh well!!!

lasted only 4000 miles? i have heard that if you dont fill the converter or make sure its filled after a rebuild and before driving it will kill the transmission pronto.

Nope, nothing but stock fluid in the transmission. I did check the fluid level after a couple thosand miles, everything was ok. (so to speak :-laf ). Still havent made it to the dealer yet, probably next week.

200 miles later........

transmission is smoked again. binding between first and second. dropped it off today. i've been babying it because i'm scheduled to get a DTT converter in next week. this sucks! they probally will have to re-build the transmission(again)! i'm leaving for florida next week for a month. just my luck!... . james :{

yep, you all heard correct! transmission is shot for the second time in 31,000 miles. almost a year apart! dealer says i need a new torque converter, clutches and seal kit. truck hesitates when i go from forward to reverse or park to forward or reverse. also truck shudders badly between first to second gear. i know some you guys will look at my sig and will think my mod's caused these failures. my first transmission went when she was completly stock! i've only had the ramifier since november and unplugged it last month because the engine would hiccup with it on. i dont hottrod much. maybe a quick WOT runs on the highway but never from a dead start. i only tow my boat twice a year and thats in february when we go to florida. whats the deal? i wonder if this transmission will last a whole year after they fix it???... james

:( Mine went at around 38,000 miles ( lost first gear and when inspected was found to be burnt ) and my dealer replaced almost all components and the torque converter along with the clutch plates and control. The trans runs great now and He told me that if it happens again to bring it back for repair. I wanted to install a billet trans but I was told it wouldnt be covered under my warrenty so I havent replaced it. I run a attitude control with my edge and a afe intake with a 5" exhaust and I have changed my stock trans pan also.

Thanks SMOOP, I give them a ring on Monday, I'm going tuesday to the local dodge dealer to do some work at their service dept and will have them look at it. If they say its toast again, I'll run it up to gainsville and let them do something with it.

5 days and counting......

well, got my truck back from the dealer friday. they said the band was out of adjustment and it was all set! pick it up and it didn't feel too bad. i had to pick up my boat about 5 miles away from my house yesterday. i couldnt even tow it home! it would move but when it went to shift to second the truck started shaking like i was driving on square tires! my buddy with a ford had to tow it home! now i have to make a decision: take it back to dodge and let them TRY to fix it for the third time in 3 weeks(and trust them enough to hook to a 8000lb boat and head south on a 3000mile round trip) or just take it to mass diesel and let him fix it while he's doing the converter. i think i'll take door number 2!

for as long as i can remember when i take off from a stop, under normal accelaration, the transmission will seem to to go first, second first then slide normally into second. this all happens very quickly. i had the truck in at the dealer a few weeks ago for bad door seals and forgot to mention the problem... . james

Mine is doing the same. It's going in today for a rebuild. I'm going to go ahead and upgrade the TC.

I'm taking it to the shop where the rebuild is scheduled. I'm towing my Grand Cherokee so that I can get home (I didn't want to go to the dealer to pick up a loaner). In Tow/Haul it started the first/second/first thing and I had to get out of the accelerator. Normally it has only been doing it when it wasn't in Tow/Haul.

I don't know how lemon laws work up where you are at, but from what I gather, if it's been to the dealer 3 times or more for the same problem, and they cannot fix it, it qualifies as a lemon.

I'm not trying to argue, but the dealer is batting a blind eye to the mods he has done. If he tries a buyback under lemon law, I doubt DC is going to feel the same way about the mods.

Just returned from the shop doing the rebuild for my dealer. He said the solenoid controlling the 1-2 shift is probably loading with band debris. First gear is essentially toast, probably from the harsh downshift when the thrust washer parts were missing. The owner things that since a complete rebuild wasn't done, initially, there was contamination in the transmission that has caused the shifting problem.

He's doing a complete rebuild and I'm purchasing a better torque converter. It's bull, but at least I'm getting a shop with a reputation for building automatics that will hold over 500 HP.

He said if he get's inside and see's anything more disturbing than he suspects, his recommendation will be for a new transmission. That's what they should have done in the first place. We'll see. The truck will be ready in three days.

Oh, I asked why the truck didn't seem to be putting any power to the ground in the lower gears. I was educated to the fact that it's been starting off in second. :p

This is my third CTD and the first real problem I've had with any of the three. The dealer is already aware of the possibility of a new transmission. They have been good about dealing with it (except for the initial instance where the mechanic should have stepped up and said get a new transmission).

traded the POS in!

well, i had it. went to my dealer that tried to fix the transmission and traded it in. got a 06 mega cab larime loaded six speed 2500. it's sitting in the driveway as i type. dealer is taking off my plow frame and re-installing. there swapping turbos, they already swapped exhausts and tow mirrors. these guys are awsome! hopfully no more transmission problems with the stick!

Swapping turbos and it hasn't left the lot yet? This dealer really loves you, don't they. Anyway I would give anything to swap into an '06 with a manual transmission at this point, but I love where I've goten my '05 and spent way to much money on mods to take a bath.

Same here. Dealer wanted my truck and 10K for a new six speed. I don't think so.
