I have a 04. 5 2500 4x4with 48re auto that has developed a serious shudder on takeoff only when pulling my fiver..... this just started after servicing the transmission and changing the fluid to Amsoil. I have an ATS torque converter, valve body and deep oil pan as well as the copilot trans control module. I contacted Amsoil and the gentelman told me that the oil is definately ATF-4 compatible. He suggested that I got an air bubble in the trans when I changed the fluid and to have the dealer reflash the ECM back to quick learn to have the trans re-learn how to shift.....

I do not have the driveline shuddering issues as they have all been addresed and corrected so it's not that. I am sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting ready to take my daughter to Oklahoma for school ( go sooners!) PS I have a constant check engine light due to the ATS torque converter (PO1740) code and ATS has never been able to get this corrected. Help!

The atf+4 has a additive to control shutter during shifts. Your transmission shouldn't have any shutter with a quick shifting v/b. I have run atf+3 for over a year with no shutter.

Sounds like the rear ujoints to me. Some say rear driveline alignment as well, but for sure it sounds like a sticky ujoint.

Call ATS and ask them what fluid they recommend. They design their transmissions to run with properties inherent to certain fluids.

Amsoil ATF covers ATF+ thru +4.

Sounds like drive line misalignment at the carrier bearing. I am asssuming there is no shuder empty. Loaded you will change the angle of the shafts and shudder. When I did a 2" lift on my 03 it would shudder empty due to the increased angle, but not when loaded. (I have a 13K lb 5th wheel)

Get a scanner and clear the 1740.

Then never allow a O/D lockup under 35 MPH you'll have to adjust the "copilot" I had the ATS commander. The 1740 shouldn't come back.

Thats what worked on my 99, at least with their Commander.

Mac
