Felt the first slippage of my transmission today. I have 62. 000 miles on the truck and when I put into gear it did'nt want to take off right away as usual I have to mash the go button to give it some persuation. What do I do now?

I would get the problem corrected immediately.

You might be able to get away with a Torque converter and Valve body upgrade.

I would call ATS www.ATSdiesel.com they will steer you in the right direction.

Keep us posted.

JMullen, without more info, i can only guess. Im bettting this happened right after you started the truck, left the shifter in P,threw it in gear, and went to take off. If this is true, then your torque convertor was just draining back. This normal on our trannys especially when they sit awhile or the truck is parked uphill. To keep this from happening, fire the truck, let ir run in N ,the tc will fill in under 30 seconds, putt it in gear and take off. Letting it run in park will not help,it needs to be in N. As for upgrades,if you've got the $$ then go for it. If your not ready to upgrade, but worried about the transmission, get it serviced,by a reputable trans shp,the debris in the pan will tell a story ,they will know if its on its way out.

SnowMan makes a good point. If time to upgrade you can't go wrong with DTT. Have been installing them for some two years and believe they are all still on the road.

don't skip the obvious

This is not intended to insult your intelligence, but don't forget to check the fluid level (MUST be done in N not P as is done with most other transmissions). This one got me for awhile when I had my first '93 D350 - I checked the fluid, but did it in park. If I recall, it made a difference of more than 2 pints.

Thanks for the replies guys, I fooled with it today and figured out that it might not be slipping, but it's not down shifting into first gear, the lag that I'm getting is the truck taking off in second gear all of the time. So my next question is, what could cause my automatic transmission to launch every time in second gear.

My dealership is wanting to rebuild right off the bat.

Run, don't walk away from them! They are trying to make money... . yours.
