I just bought a used 2003 SO and have noticed that once my truck is brought up to temp the transmission starts out in 2nd a lot of the time--if i pull it down in 1st then it starts properly. anybody have this problem or any ideas what is causing it... I'm thinking maybe the trans fluid and filter are ready for a change;

80,000k and not known when last serviced... . thanks in advance,

Steve

The Jeep trannys do this also. There are 2 solenoids in the 42re ~200 bucks in parts that I replaced on mine and it cured it. I don't know if the 47re is the same or not. I changed them myself. Not a big deal just messy because you drop the pan to get to them. Jeepsunlimited has alot of info on this topic.

Most probably your governor pressure is not returning to 0 psi when stopped. It is usually caused by a faulty governor pressure solenoid and/or governor pressure transducer. It is recommended to replace both of these when you have this kind of problem. Just drop the pan and filter and remove/replace the two items.

I would highly recommend the dealer parts. I have seen the aftermarket ones cause more problems than you already have. On the down side, I have even seen a few dealer ones be bad, too. Talk about scratching your head when you run into a bad dealer part! Truth is the dealer parts are more reliable than the aftermarket in this application, approximately 95% good.
