Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) transmission swap??

I'm thinking about swapping out my stock 5 spd with either an auto. or a 6 spd. Was wandering if anyone could give me some input on the trouble of either swap. What would all be needed for either swap and which would be recommended. I know i would need a different cross member and driveshaft, but with the auto. wont i need a different wiring harness? Someone told me i could use a 47rh i beleive and wouldnt need a harness. any input would be appreciated
