Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) transmission swap ?????

hey guys and gals. . I am buying a 1996 dodge 3/4 ton v10 4x4 and I am wondering if the transmission is the same as a 2001 turbo cummins??? will it bolt up are the connections the same. if it is i am going to rebuild it to performance spec for my cummins. I called my local dealer and they did not know... . the other truck runs and has a plow. all for 500 bucks. can't go wrong i guess. help

The Quick Answer Is Yes And No.

1)your 01 Cuumins, Look At The Bracket That Holds The Bellcrank For The Shift Linkage. The 01 Trans Has A Boos In The Case For This To Bolt Up, The 96 May Or May Not.

2)the Electronics On The Two V/bodies Is Different, So Is The V/b But It Would Work With The Right Electronics For Your 01.

Long Story Short, If The 96 V-10 Has The Boss Casted On The Case For The Shift Linkage Your Golden, You Can Switch V/bodies And Everything Else Will Bolt In And Work Except The V-10 Converter. Have To Use Cummins Converter And 01 V/b Electronics.

Thanks for the reply . . as long as the bolt up and and hookup are the same . I will rebuild the transmission with all the stuff for the cummins beefed up for perfomance and torque. then i will have a spare for the hill i am slipping down. .
