I've got an 04 HO w/ boost, egt, and transmission temp gauges. The boost and egt are Banks' and the transmission temp is the mechanical gauge from Westach that senses from the dipstick.

My problem is that the gauge will quit working intermittenly. It will register a temp, then go to zero. Sometimes it seems like the needle "floats. " I mean, it will read what appears to be an average temp, then when I accelerate it will drop to zero and come back up again.

I've checked the ground and it is solid. Could my power source be throwing some interference to the gauge? Could it just be a bad gauge?

Hope this issue hasn't been beat to death already.

Thanks,

Ian Choplin

I had a Westac transmission gauge like you have on my 99. It started to act up a couple of years after I installed it. If I remember right it would show false readings (swing too high) but then the next time I started the truck it would read normal and then swing wild again.

It turned out to be a bare wire where I drilled a small hole in the top of the cap on the dipstick. The vibration of the engine had worn through the insulation and was grounding to the cap. I just repaired the wire and made the hole through the cap a little larger so the wires could be insulated with silicone. Never had any more problems after that.

If that is not the case the guys at Westac are excellent to work with. Their number is on the installation instructions that came with the gauge. I have had excellent success and reliability with Westac garges.
