I did a search of the archives for info on different methods of transmission temp monitoring. Came up with a lot of drill/tap the pan, in line fitting to the cooler, and a couple on some plugs in the transmission. I stumbled across one thread where they mentioned a dipstick sending unit, supposedly purchased from Genos. One person also vaguely described using the sensor from the dipstick probe to monitor the surface temp on the line to the cooler.

Genos apparently doesnt sell this dip stick probe anymore, but I was wondering if anyone had any further insight into these???

I drilled my pan, I was supplied with an extra sender with my gauge so just for kicks I put it in the trans modulator test port to compare and the pan is within a degree of the port.

My pan sender is in the front as fluid from the cooler is dumped in at the rear of the pan.

I was told a test port would not be good as it would be stagnant fluid but not so in this location:

Sorry I can't answer your dipstick question.

Thanks Matt. I think that unless I find something more about the dip stick one, I'll do the test port.

BTW. The thread I referenced above was started by "ldg", titled ALt Transmission Temp Sensor Mount, back in 8-23-2003. The instructions he got were from a thread by CBALLA, back in 9/6/2001. But my search was unable to find the last thread, maybe they get permanently archived after a certain period of time.

Jthiessen, I still have mine taped to the cooler line as I indicated on my original post and have never had to re-tape it and have not had a problem with it. Sorry to hear about Geno's no longer carrying the dipstick sensor, its a real simple and easy set up. Good luck with whatever you do. Currently I have 36K on the truck and 21K of that I put on in 36 days delivering RV's through out the US and BC,CA. so it has not been babied by any stretch of the imagination :)
