Just to make this long story short, here is my ?. Towing 5er about 15k, my temps highway speed stay around 150. Pull off onto the dirt road moving about 5-10 mph my temp reaches 250 in about 1/4 mile, now going up a long hill taking it easy (toy hauler) about 15' grade maybe another 1/4 mile, the transmission starts slipping. I have it in low gear trying to keep rpms up but no luck, come to a stop. So I know I'm not in lock up this entire time but it sure seems my transmission temp went up and my transmission starting slipping pretty fast. So I let it cool down awhile, back down to a flat spot and get a running start and haul *** the rest of the way up the hill. Yes my fluid smells burnt and my transmission temp light came on. I have a ATS stage 5, double deep pan and use amsoil synthetic. transmission only has about 10k on it since installed, and have had no heating problems before this. Drove home a couple days later, had to, but no problems on return trip. ???What damage could I have done, and what should I look for. I plan to do a flush and refill, filter change etc. Any other suggestions. I'm just wondering what damage have I done here especially after all this money spent on this transmission, and why did it heat up so fast. I've also ordered a second cooler. Any suggestions or help, did I do something wrong or what. Thanks.
 
You need to check the check valve in the cooler line whn it is rebuilt. Anything else it needs will be obvious.

It most likely is damaged. That heat is a killer.
 
RHARVEY said it best. Give ATS a call. They would have been my first call or email. I think they will stand behind thier product. I do not have one yet but I might in the near future. Rob
 
transmission Overheating

From my experiences with an ATS stage 5 transmission, I agree with the other, call ATS asap.



I'm guessing that either the fluid lines got plugged or a valve in the valve body stuck open and doesn't allow the transmission to come up to proper pressure.



Once you've had over-heating these trannies, my suggestion is to have ATS refer you to one of their authorized transmission dealers and have them pull the pan and take a look. My guess it's going to need to be rebuilt.



Again, from experience, ATS will stand behind their products. It may seem at times that they don't care or you might get the feeling they think it's something you did. But stick to your guns and they will come through.



Good luck. I'm not sure of the wisdom of using synthetic fluid in the ATS transmission - the warranty makes you flush it every 15,000 miles so my thought is to go ahead and use normal transmission fluid.



Again, give ATS a call asap.

Just so you all know I have called ATS but no response yet, so I will keep trying. At this point I am going to flush and pull the pan take a look. This sucks.

I know what you mean about them not calling you back. But don't get discouraged - I suggest you call them every 1-2 hours until you get someone. Or just keep asking for Clint. Eventually you'll get someone.



In my last dealings with ATS, our mechanic tried to call them for several days, and finally our mechanic asked me to call them. I was able to get ahold of the person handling our problem and he said they "forgot" to call the mechanic back.



Just hang in there and they will take care of you - but you may need to be firm.



My suggestion is that BEFORE you do anything that might void your ATS warranty you talk with them and get their approval. My thought is that you might want to preserve the transmission situation so they can take a look and determine exactly what failed.

If your Amsoil synthetic transmission fluid smells burnt you toasted the inside of that trany. You have to have temps in excess of 350 degrees to "burn" the Amsoil.
