I understand that you can put a transmission temperture sensor into one of the the test ports on the Automatic. I have a 96. Can anyone tell me which port I can put the sensor into. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bill K told me I could use the middle port, pass side on my '95 for trans temp. I did and it works great. I don't know if this applies to other years though. Your probe can't extend far into the trans or will cause problems, mine was about 3/4" long.

The cooler line on a '95 has a port built in. I don't know about the '96 trucks. Mine didn't have this port, so I bought a line for a '95 and swapped it. My sender is in the line. Most agree this is the best place for the sender - gives you the temp as the fluid is leaving the transmission - showing you how hot is is before it goes through the cooler.

The problem on 94s & 95s is that the output line port is used for the stock sensor, something I don't feel is good to disable. The only other way besides the center port is to add a tee to the output line = potential leaks. On '96+ the stock sensor is internal so a output line with port is doable.

You can get away with pulling the stock sensor out of the line and replacing it with a resistor to trick the PCM into thinking that the trans is always warm. All that sensor does is keep your truck out of OD until your traans warms up and knocks it down to third when it gets to hot. If you watch your gauge you can duplicate that yourself very easy. I have done this before.
