OK who wants to help the dumb guy? Just got my Mag transmission pan. Have not yet installed gauges, but while I am under there can I install temp sensor in provided spot without leaks, and complete the install later?

You sure can, but many folks recommend that the sensor be installed in the output line to the cooler for more accurate readings. The pan temp can remain low while the output temp climbs dangerously high. My feeling is that a sender in the pan is better than none at all.

I agree with illflem (so he must be right:D ). His reasoning is valid not only from what I have read, but also from my training in hydraulics.

You did not say what year Ram you have. I replaced the pressure line last week. I used the ’95 line because I wanted to install a temperature sending unit in the out put line. This is the factory hose, which includes the check valve and fittings.

The line cost about $110 (including shipping) from DTT. This is the number you want for DTT 1 866 504 4002 (toll free Canada) or 1 800 922 7782.

P. S. stmpplr, the dumb guy did not ask the question, so obviously, you are not him.

Just did Del's yesterday morning. I put the sensor in the rubber hose up under the radiator. The 'output/push' line is the longer of the 2 lines there. Plenty of room to cut the hose & do the install. :)

That's exactly what I'll be doing next week. I ordered the output line from DTT ($135 delivered) and will be servicing the transmission, installing the line and sender, and adding the Mag-Hytec DD pan. I'll also be installing gages as well (pyro, trans temp, boost). Good old hands on experience!

The best thing to do, is to install two sensors. One in the hot lin, and one in the pan. This lets you know several things, such as the effectiveness of the coolers, and the temperature of the oil the trans is actually using. All you need is two sensors, one gauge, and a switch to flip between sensors. :D
